Kenmore elite gas range clicking sound

Two burners on left side keep making the clicking noise when the nob is in the off position. Have shut off the electric to the stove and stopping it from trying to ignite. Not sure how to make it stop? Any help would be appreciated.

We plugged it back in. The two burners on left side continue to make the clicking noise. All four lite and have no clicking noise when lit. After turning all off the two on the left begin to click again.

  • jklaugh Jun 20, 2009

The clicking noise stopped for about 4 hours. Now it is back I tried turning on the right burner; the 2 left burners are still clicking. Then I turned off the right burners and turned on the left. The left burners are clicking when the flame in on. Next step??? If I need to check the valve, where do I do that? f.y.i... all the burners click when I turn on one of the right burners.

Finally took whole thing apart, used hair dryer to blow on switches/knobs again. No sounds or clicks for the past few hours. Hopefully that will fix the problem. Thank you so much for all your help.

If unplugging it for a couple minutes and plugging back in does not rectify then it sounds like a bad spark module or a shorted wire inside. All 4 should spark at the same time when any burner is used. (Does trying to light a burner make the other 2 spark too?)

Turn on any burner other than the one clicking. If the clicking stops it is either the module or a bad wire. If the clicking stops when a specific burner is lit I would check the switch on that valve. Swap them around if you do not have a meter and see if the problem moves to another burner.

I would check the switches on the valves for the left side. They are behind the front panel. The knobs come off and screws along the bottom. there may be 2 screws for each control. If you provide a complete model number I mught be able to be more specific. there will be 3 numbers and a decimal point that are part of the number.

I would disconnect the wires on the left side switches. If that solves it a switch is bad.(Tape it off so it doesn't tough anything). Since it is apart already I will replace all 4 unless they are very expensive. If it continues to click the module is bad or a wire is shorted somewhere. Tracing out wires is not always easy but would have to be done. Eric

Kenmore gas range when no clicking when turning the oven on

Range: Gas burner won't spark or ignite A surface burner igniter switch and a spark module activate the spark electrode when a burner is turned to the "Lite" position on a gas range's cooktop. If the surface burner switch, spark module or wiring in that circuit fails, the spark electrode won't work, and as a result the gas burner won't light. If those components work but the electrode won't spark, the problem could be that the spark electrode is coated with spilled food of is bent or broken. In addition, the electrode won't spark or ignite the burner properly if the ceramic insulation sleeve below the tip of the electrode is cracked or broken. If the gas burner isn't lighting, these repairs may help.

Replace the spark igniter electrode

1396454293470.jpg The spark igniter electrode-also called the surface burner igniter-is an insulated electrode that provides an ignition spark to light a surface gas burner. It sparks and makes a ticking sound when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the spark ignition electrode if it fails to spark or if the ceramic insulation sleeve is cracked or chipped. How to Replace a Spark Igniter Electrode in a Gas Range Find This Part

Replace the surface spark module

1377098014986.jpg The surface spark module is in the ignition circuit for the gas surface burners. When a surface burner control knob is turned to the "Lite" position, it provides voltage to the spark electrodes on the gas surface burners. If the surface spark module fails to provide the electrodes with voltage, then it should be replaced. Find This Part

Replace the spark igniter switch

1396454315355.jpg The igniter switch is an electrical switch on the stem of the gas surface burner control valve. This switch completes a circuit to the surface burner spark module, causing the burner igniters to spark when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the burner igniter switch if the burners don't spark when you turn the burner control knob to the Lite position or if igniters spark constantly even when the burner knobs are in the Off position.

It could possibly be you are not getting 240 volts to the range. The top igniter may be getting a current back through the other side of the 240 circuit and that is why it works when the oven is turned on but the oven will not be getting power to heat. Have the 240 circuit checked or make sure the circuit breakers are reset correctly.

Sears Kenmore gas stove, the front left and the left and right rear burners turn on when the knob is turned to the lite position. The right front burner doesn't turn on when put lite position. N

If there is no clicking sound like you hear when you turn on the other burners than I'm going to say that either the electrode is bad or the spark switch, which is what you turn to turn on the burner to begin with. Both parts are cheap so it may be a good maintenance thing to change all of the burners. Make sure you have your model and go to www.repairclinic.com and order both parts, and if you don't need one send it back for a full refund even if you installed it. good luck

Gas burner wont come on ,it just keeps making a clicking sound but doesn`t come on fridgidair

Is the gas shut-off on? (If the problem is with all burners this is the first place to check.) Usually the shut-off is at the back of the unit and you can reach it after removing the bottom storage drawer. Make sure the burner parts are put together properly (some sealed burner units only fit one way). Check that there are no clogs in the burner slits. The clicking is the ignitor trying to ignite the gas, btw.

Additional problems are recommended for professionals. However you can look for a clogged orifice when you disassemble the burner for cleaning.

I hope this helps.

(I don't know of any range that has a separate burner shut-off (just oven shut-offs) but you might check your range.)
