Daewoo side by side fridge freezer FRS-U201CW-N186. Freezer is not self defrosting and fridge isn't maintaining a cold temperature

start with locating and cycling the defrost timer switch, generally found in the refrigerator side. The timer controls a heating element designed to melt off ice build up on the interior freezer coils. if the timer is bad, ice will build up, blocking air flow to the refrigerator section (making it not cool) and eventually build up enough so that the internal fan actually hits ice, making unusual noises. most timers can be manually driven with a flat head screwdriver, do it with the power connected, when you reach the defrost cycle you will hear the fans and compressor shut off, and you should be able to feel warmth on the back panel in the freezer after a few minutes.

if you find the timer isn't working properly, it is not difficult to replace, take your time, take pictures as you go along so reassembly is easier, and of course have the frige unplugged when you do it.

Refrigerator side doesn't feel cool but the freezer side is cold for a Maytag refrigerator model # MZD2766GE

Is there ice build-up in the back of the freezer? If so take the panel off the back of the freezer section inside the freezer and replace the heating element.

Whirlpool Gold freezes up to frige side

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Freezer cold. Refrigerator very warmer.

Hi there. This should be a self defrosting unit. Check the defrost clock. It's usually behind the grill at bottom front of frig. or near the compressor. There is probably a little window on the clock motor where you can see it turn. You can manually advance the clock to put the unit into defrost mode. Check the defrost heating element. This is the usual problem. It is under shrouds where all the frost builds up. If element good, check defrost thermostat connected to element mechanically and in series electrically.
Thanks

Ice builds up on evaporator coils. After chipping off the ice, refrigerator is cold again. This lasts only a few weeks as ice builds up. Eventually, the freezer is cold but the refrigerator is very warmer....

Assuming this was originally a frost-free model, either the defrost cycle timer died or the defrost heating element died. If it's the timer, you might be able to manually start and end a defrost cycle every few days. If it's the heating element, you may be stuck with what you're doing or an expensive repair or buying a new refridgerator.

Frig warm, Freezer Cold

I have experienced this with other refrigerator freezers. The most likely cause is that the warming element in your automatic defrost system is no longer working. Ice is building up on the cooling coils and this prevents the refrigerator from getting cold. I have always called an appliance repairman to fix (~$150). If you're handy you can try yourself, but you still have to buy the part at retail. Good Luck

Both the Freezer and the Refridgerator quit working...

Do you have ice build up on the back wall in the freezer? If so you have whats called a defrost problem. (can be timmer, adc, heating element or thermostat)... All cold air in you fridge side come from the freezer, therefore if you have ice build up behind back wall in freezer it is blocking air flow....

GE Fridge/Freezer Having to turn temp up just to keep it cold

From your comment. It's not that you have to defrost the parts, that's what they're called. "defrost timer", "defrost t-stat" and "heat element". Defrosting the whole fridge for a few days actually will clear the ice blockage if that's it but it will return in a couple weeks if the "defrost cycle" isn't doing its thing. A fridge typically goes into some form of "defrost cycle" to keep it "frost free". As an example, every 12 hours the compressor turns off and the evap. fan turns off then a heat element turns on to melt the light coating of ice on the "cooling coils". Once about 1/2 hour goes by the heating turns off and the cooling turns back on again. This repeats over and over to keep the ice from building up too much. If that cycle is broken, the ice will build and build till the whole coil is a block of ice. Then the air can't flow around it to provide cold air for the whole unit. It acts basically like putting a large block of ice in the freezer and keeping the doors closed... without a fan to move the cold air only the very lower portion of the freezer is cold, the rest is warm.
