Help required installing OS (Changing OS ) myself on my HP dv9507

I have HP dv9507 tx laptop.
It came with Vista home edition pre installed. It is very slow. I want to change it to xp. what is the procedure toit myself. Do we need any other drivers installed specifically for Xp. If it is not safe to do it by my self I would like to know the HP laptop service center address in Hyderabad, India. How much would they charge for it. I am afraid my free service period (garantee period) is complemeted.

    hi kawawa

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I have created the recovery disc from my laptop how do I get the genuine OS CD for the one that came with my laptop? I didnt get the Vista OS CD when I bught the laptop. The OS was preinstaled. I dont have one. I plan to purchase XP OS CD though. Another thing that puzzles me is , is it that straight forward. The procedure explained will definitely work for PC . But is it the same for laptop also. Please clarify. Do I need some extra driver softwares specific fr my model. Is it possible to download them myself from HP site and complete the OS chnage myself? I think the following link gives the driver link:

Do I need anything more to know and do.

There are two procedures, [1]Reformat your hard disk and start a clean installation (this is the easiest thing to do, however not the most convinient) and [2] Using a genuine retail version [NOT a recovery disk] you could do some kind of downgrade [not as easy as it sounds]
I'll go back to solution number 1 (reformating the hard disk). Idearly, you'll want to back up your vista installation just in case things get messed up, then secondly you'll want to create a backup of all your files [dont worry about application data, you'll have to reinstall it all anyway]. After you're done, Insert your Windows XP disk, [it should ask you to press a key to boot from CD, if not you'll have to go into your BIOS and change the boot order], when you're into the setup, the guidelines are pretty simple, you'll have to run one of the formatting options in order to install XP [remember that formatting will erase everything from your hard disk, So I hope you did aBACK UP of all your DATA]...
As for procedure 2, Installing XP without reformating, well, let me know if you're up for the procedure and if you have an XP recovery disc

Well of course, the procedure I outlined above will work for most computers whether a laptop or a desktop. And the link you gave is a perfect place to get your drivers. SO when you install your XP and you go to your device manager [right-click 'my computer> Manage > and finalyl click 'device manager' in the console tree] you will be able to see which devices need drivers, usually these have a 'yellow question mark' next to them or a 'yellow exclamation mark'. If you right click a device and click properties, you should be able to update your drivers from there...

So go on and purchase your Windows XP and install it. Alternatively, one thing you can try to do before you downgrade to XP is try and improve the performance on your vista computer and the first thing you could is disable the Aero Display theme( the one with all the fancy graphics and glass-like layout, it is automatically comes one), some other things you could to is relate to stopping a few services here and there or even making a few registry changes, and I was able to find a good tutorial for that very purpose:

For transferring to xp from vista is very difficult, the xp need other driver software it does not work in vista driver. so it would be better that yo just carry it to the nearby service authority. the best place will be, go to the shop from you had purchased the laptop........they will cost you 300 to 400 indian rupees.

I cannot install ethernet driver of hp compaq d530. Where can i find it?

Hello: I hope the following information is helpful.
If you are trying to install the driver for the Broadcom ethernet NIC that was pre-installed (NOT an ethernet card that you purchased and installed yourself), there is a softpack (updated driver installation) download available from HP/Compaq. It will install the driver automatically for you, just download it from the link below and run the ".exe" file.
IMPORTANT: Check to be sure that your current Operating System, and model of the network device you are trying to install, are BOTH listed below BEFORE you download!
This is a software / driver update for the HP Compaq d530 ultra-slim desktop: All Models

Hello. I got a Toshiba m305-4848 pre-loaded

You have to format the drive...Vista can go"over" XP,but XP cannot override Vista.Or partition your drive and get a dual boot system, then you can choose either O.S., like I have.

CHANGING OPERATING SYSTEM: VISTA TO WINDOW7 TRIAL VERSION

Keep the old system . Instal the new one leaving the old intact. Thsi is called a dual boot. When you turn it on it will give you the option of which version to run.  When insstall the new OS Beta  it shoudl give you the options of :"Overwrite windows?" Say no.  Then go ahead and install.    As to the question about your existing windows. Ifyou have not the reinstall cd's or the reinstal someone else on your hard driver, and you loose you present windows. You will usually have to purchase either the reinstal cd's or a new windows version.   I myself,of would make sure to have or make them before instaling anything else.

Vista startup problem due to Daemon tools..

if you have the original windows vista OS cd you can boot up as though you are going to install the OS. It will then list the current windows installations on the system. Click on the one you are having problems with and click repair. This should fix the MBR info and other boot up problems.

Your computer came with a restore cd I am sure, so you can get vista back later if you need.

Here is a tutorial made just for you. You will need to own an XP CD. pre-installed-windows-vista-computer/">http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/install-windows-xp-on-your-pre-installed-windows-vista-computer/

You can buy laptop coolers almost anywhere for $20 to $30. They will get hot. I try to keep my laptop on a flat open surface to allow maximum air flow. Setting it on you lap insulates it and it gets warm. Nothing out of the ordinary.

You may be able to download an updated driver from HP that will fix your web cam problem. There may also be another program running that is trying to manage the web cam also. Take a look at your running programs and close any that are related to the web cam and see if you error still occurs.
