Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

CD/dvd drive disappear/will not play

Hello, My laptop (HP Pavilion D9870ea) will not play cd/dvd's, it's less than a year old & did work up until a few months ago, we didn't use the laptop for anything much as we had another laptop & desktop, the problem became apparent when we decided to get it internet ready, it wouldn't read the set up disc & had to set up on line The.OS is Windows Vista home premium, and device is an Optiarc BD rom BC5500A. Tried several fixes, uninstall/reinstall drivers etc.,regedit but upper/lower filters are not shown, If the usual fix (regedit) is used the cd/dvd appears in devices but on inserting disc, play list appears, graphics come on & sometimes a quick burst of sound & then the error message "windows media player cannot find the file, if you are trying to play, burn or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved renamed or deleted." I have completed a system recovery, followed to the letter what to do after a system recovery, but all to no avail. It mentions amongst the myriad of items read, does the device appear in the BIOS? If it does I can't see it, but I have an identical laptop with the same devices & software & it doen't appear on that one either & that works fine, am I misunderstanding this? Thanking you in anticipation, Regine in UK

Go to Control Panel and uninstall the program you installed (CD/DVD) installer. Reinstall the program.

My hp pavilion zd8000 laptop with XP installed will not allow me to load a golf game from a CD Rom I purchased some 14 years ago. I used to have this installed a nd played regularly on a previous computer.

The game may be not supported with the current Operating System Perhaps!!! What was your old computer's Operating system? And since the CD-ROM is 14 years old does it has too many scratch?? These days computer CD/DVD drives will never read the disc if they are scratched...

Finally, when you try installing the game, do you encounter any error message? if yes please post it....always remember if your posting your problem in forum, make sure that you provide all information about the issue.

My HP desk top is almost a year old. The dvd/cd burner is a real pain. Regardless which program CD are burned with they are indicated as successful burns, but in playing them the songs are chopped up,...

There probably is no way to fix this. If it is the problem, getting and installing a new cd drive is very simple. You can buy a new drive here: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=600&name=Blu-Ray-Burners&Order=PRICE. To remove the old one, all you need to do is open up the side, unscrew the one or two screws holding it to the case and unplug the two cables that are attached to it. The install the new one, slide it in attach the cables and put the screws back in. It is as simple as that and should work just fine after that. If you don't need the Blu Ray part of the drive you can always save some money by buying one of these instead: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=5&name=CD-DVD-Burners.

Stopped playing CD'S and DVD's. (HP

If the CD/DVD disks play in another computer, then the CD/DVD hardware inside your laptop has "died".

Take your computer to any local computer-repair store, and get them to trouble-shoot, and, if necessary, sell you a new CD/DVD drive, and connect it.

Dvd drive disappear

Did you try restarting Windows? Get into BIOS and check if the CD drive is being detected.. Otherwise its probably dead.

Hp pavilion zv6000 wont recognize dvd+r

Hi Terry,

The answer is pretty simple, the ZV series is about 4 years old, back then DVD manufacturers decided which formats they would support as it was too expensive to make desktop drives, let alone, laptop drives that supported all formats. That drive only works with DVD-R and I believe DVD-RW. If you want to burn other formats, the laptop will only support them if you add an external drive of a newer make.

Note: Virtually all current models support ALL DVD formats and many support BluRay as well.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Dvd plays initially and then stops

Hi,
It could be the drivers for CD/DVD.
The best way to troubleshoot this is right click on computer, select manage. A new window will pop up, in that list select device manager.
Look in the list for CD/DVD drives and click on the + sign next to it, when the tree opens right click on the CD/DVD drive and select uninstall, then restart the PC.

This method will hard reset the system and force windows to load the default drivers for the CD/DVD upon restart. Hopefully this should resolve your problem.
If not please post back.

Good luck

Also open my computer nd let me if you see the CD/DVD drive icon thier.

Also Insert any cd or dvd in to the CD/DVD drive and let me know if you hear the spinng sound of the cd and also check if you see the little light blinking on the cd/dvd drive when the cd is spinning.

Thank you.
