I have a Lennox Diplomat furnace. How can I tell if the blower motor is set for high speed when it comes on?

The only way to really tell if the blower is set to high is to look at the control board inside the furnace and see how it is hooked up. You will have either a 3 speed or 4 speed blower motor, more than likely a 4. These are Hi, Med Hi, Med Low, Low. Each speed has its own color and if the motor has ever been changed, it could be different from factory diagrams. The most common colors/speeds are:

Black- Hi
Blue- Med Hi
Orange- Med Low
Red- Low

You could have different colors but they will be close. If it's an aftermarket motor, the speeds will be listed on the motor itself, but very difficult to get to sometimes. On the board, you should have terminals marked, COOL, HEAT, PARK, PARK. You hook what speed you want for Cool and Heat and put the other 1 or 2 wires on Park.

Again, these might not be exact, but these are the basics and they usually don't deviate from them to much unless it's a 95% furnace or such. If you do have the diagram for the furnace, you will be able to find everything with no problem now that you have the basics. Also keep in mind that you will have a Common wire from the motor that hooks to Com. terminals on the board. Hope this helps and good look!

Furnace repair

what makes you think there a problem with the blower, Most newer blowers have multi-speeds so be careful to only have two wires hooked up at a time , always have the ground hooked up, usually the white wire and then try black for high speed, make sure fan is secure it may shift. to check low speed connect only the red wire to power and the white wire to gound . depending on motor, other colors would be medium and medium high is so equipped. if motor gets hot after a while check for a capacitor, they have a tendency to get weak, replace with exact same capacitor. let me know why you suspect the blower.

There should be a wiring diagram on the motor itself. The colors of the wires vary depending on voltage and model. Generally you have a med/low and med/high setting, I'm not sure what you are getting to with the low/high setting unless you are trying to set up staging. Check the motor for a diagram, if that is not present post back with all of the wire colors coming from the motor and the voltage.

I just bought a dayton belt drive fan and blower motor to replace my old motor. I don't understand the how to wire the motor to get it to work.

A lot of wires can be confusing but you ain't gonna use half of them. I have not seen you motor but they are basically all the same. You are going to have a Red wire for low(heating), Blue for medium (which is not needed), and Black for high speed (cooling). A solid white wire is the common wire. Go ahead and tape the blue medium speed wire off by itself so it won't short anythang out. Their will be 2 brown wires with spade clips and the capacitor goes to them. The other wires have to do with reversing the motor and you can see how that is done by using the directions on the label. You NEVER want to connect the speeds together or that burns up the motor. If you have electric heat then it is simple just use black for high and white for common and tape the other speeds off to themselves so that they don't short out against each other or the unit.

hmmm . you better check on that before firing it up ... normally the colored wires are for different speeds .. only one speed can be connected at a time .. usually the high speed winding is used for air conditioning and a lower speed winding is selected by a relay for heating .. ... the way the capacitor is hooked up determines which way the motor will turn .. your old motor with just 3 wires was probably a single speed motor .. normally the black wire will be connected permanantly to one phase .. the other phase then goes to the selected speed winding (color of wire) .. one goes to the starting capacitor . the others even if not connected will be hot electrically so need wire nuts to prevent shorts ..

How to change fan speed on a goodman gmp 100-3 furnace

Usually you can find the control board on the lower part of the furnace. Turn the power off and remove the
doors. This board is usually located directly in front of the blower motor.

On the control board locate the terminals marked heat/cool/park and Park Lets say the Heat Terminal
has a red wire attached to it and you want a higher
speed.

Red is uasually low speed, remover the red wire from
heat terminal and exchange it with a wire attached to
a terminal lab eled park. Black is usually high spped

What wires on the blower are power need to know what colors to hook up to run 120w

The wires to your blower are connected at the control board. To hook up a 120V to the furnace, on this model, is located on the left hand side of the burner section. There is a black and white wire in a small 2"x 3" box. The control board selects which wire to power the motor depending on what mode you are in.

Wiring a retrofit soft start blower into a Ruud 5T/100k gas pack

Chances are, you've smoked the motor. You basically put 120 volts across the speed windings of the motor when you did this.

What you need to do is, with the new motor, you will have neutral, and speed 1, speed 2, speed 3, etc. Hook one of the original black wires to neutral (it would be best to trace which of the two black wires is connected to neutral, and connect this one.).

Black on the new motor is probably High speed, red is probably low, orange is medium speed. Hook the remaining black wire to one of these, and no more than one of these, or you will smoke the motor again.

Attach a wire cap and/or electrical tape to the remaining wires to insulate them from contacting anything else.
