Magnavox Digital Converter Box

I have the Magnavox 175216 digital converter box and the volume was low on it, so i went to the menu to see if any adjustments could be made. Without knowing what it was for I clicked on the RF selection, suddenly my picture went out and there was only snow on my screen. But the real problem now is since change to the RF option from the menu screen I can no longer access the menu!! The only thing that works on my remote now is the on/off button. But when I press Menu to change the RF setting back to the original nothing happens. I can't get back to the menu. Can you help?

You are confused about the purpose of your Magnavox STB. It converts digital frequencies to analog for your analog TV to process. The left and right audio outputs connect to corresponding inputs on the rear of your TV (the same ones used by your DVD player) for amplification. There is no volume adjustment on the STB.

Check the converter box. Many have a volume setting that is usually set very low at the factory. On the remote control for the converter check to see if there are volume buttons. If so, change the converter box volume higher, to a level that makes the TV audio level "normal", then use the volume control on the TV for adjustment as you watch. If you set the volume on the converter box too high, you may get some distortion in the audio from your TV. So adjust the converter box to find the proper output from your TV without distortion.

WHY DOES THE VOLUME GO DOWN WHEN I USE CONVERTER BOX?

You will need to adjust the volume on the tv when using the box. The digital sound is different then the sound coming across on analog signal thus do not expect them to be at the same level. The box is not so dreaded, the picture quality is much better then what you get with analog.

Dtv converter box - low sound

I work for Phillips/Magnavox tech support. If the volume is low like that unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do about it. Coby makes a converter box as well as Memorex, and their boxes had the same problems. The box should be returned to the store for an exchange, or sent in for warranty repair/exchange. There is nothing you can do to fix that problem.

I hope this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed.

Thank you for visiting FixYa.
