When I try to send a document to print from my iMac to my Brother Printer the printer icon on iMac indicates "media tray empty" and the printer will not print. What do I do?

I'm assuming this is on a network printer.
1- try resetting the machine ( did not specify the model or make)
2- does it have the correct IP and gateway
3- try restting the PC and port
SOURCE: "490: MP tray is empty" message when trying to print labels from Word 2003
The MP tray referred to is the Multi Purpose tray and is located at the front of the printer. To access it, you need to find the 2 indentations at the side of the front feed assembly and pull them towards you. this then gives access to the MP tray. Don't forget to press the blue button after loading the paper. Your user guide/manual will give clear instructions and pictures. It may also be called manual feed tray. Once loaded with the correct paper press the online button and printing will start.
SOURCE: printer indicates catridge error
we need to perform a reset, it will take the pritner to the factory settings and this may help you,
the process of reset goes like.
unplug the power cable from the pritner >
then press and hold down the # key and 6 key >
while pressing and holding these keys plug in the power cable back into the printer and wait for 20 secs and then release the buttons..
after this the printer will re-initialize and this might take few minutes.. so wait untill it finishes and follow the onscreeen instruction as well.(if any)
SOURCE: HP business inkjet 1100
This very simple solution works on my Business Inkjet 1100.
1) Turn the printer off, then back on, to clear the error.
2) Set your computer's clock back to a date prior to the cartridge expiry date.
3) Print something, (any documents will do).
4) Set your computer's clock forward to the correct date and the printer should still print, and ignore the expired cartridges.
My
1100 re-checks the cartridges and dates occasionally, but not frequently (it has
been about two months between checks) so you might need to repeat this
process every two months or so until you have used up your expired
cartridges.
This solution is much easier than dismantling the printer and changing/removing wires!
