Pin 570 Pocket pc. Model:PS1022. The lcd unit was damaged to the extent that no images can be read. I've opened it up & found that the unit can actually unplug via a ribbon cable. Would it be possible to get another unit - either new or second-hand, to replace the current one? I am in NZ, so please take this into consideration when replying as i don't know if it would be worth while getting a replacement unit from too far away...
The screen is expensive in relation to the value of the pda so a practical solution is to buy a donor pda with a different fault being offered cheaply for spares. The screen is the same as that for the Acer N35. Both PDA's are based on the same motherboard although they are not interchangeable due to slightly different fittings for example the GPS aerial connector. Screens and batteries are interchangeable.Try Ebay or Trade Me. If the ribbon is not pushed home firmly and square before locking in, it will not work and swicth on and off and on to check. You need a certain amount of good fortune when buying a dead donor as any other fault may disguise the fact that the donor's screen may also be kaput!

T'Con board fault. check and replace it. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ faults & possible causes to LCD & Plasma screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent. Faults to all LCD & Plasma screen are similar, irrespective of its brand and screen size.

RECENTLY I DID PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING
SO HERE IS WHAT I DID :
" I TURNED IT ON AND HIT THE HARD RESET AND THEN LEFT IT ON TILL ALL P[OWER WENT AWAY FROM UNIT
SECOND I HAD TO DOWNLOAN A NEW VERSION FOR MY UNIT ; MEANING MAP
THEN I TOOK THE BATTERY OUT AND AND PLUGED IN MY USB CORD AND IT TOOK IT
I PUT MY BATTERY IN AND CHARGED OVER NIGHT AND WELL IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT TO DO BUT FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND MY DRIVER GOT BOOTED OFF THE UNIT AND ANOTHER DRIVER FOR A MODEL WAS ATTACHED
HOW I DONT KNOW BUT MY UNIT WORKS NOW FOR THE LAST 4 MONTHS NO PROBLEMS
It is likely your battery is depleted or it can also be an unlikely flaw in the firmware.
To eliminate the firmware flaw, restore (flash) the entire firmware using a downloaded version from the Navman.com site or an upgrade of the OS and or GPS app which will likely include an entirely new firmware.
Since your battery isn't retaining a charge, this operation should be performed from a PC demonstrated to provide power to the PiN 570 and or a reliable power strip on a UPS if you're using the split AC/USB cable.
A device subjected to a power interruption during a firmware flash can become permanently ruined or cost ineffective to recover.
It seems there is either an internal false contact in the LCD screen connector to in the mainboard, or moisture/water damage in it.
It is necessary to open to check it.
It requires a very skillful person to do it. If you have not experience with fixing electronic devices, then I do suggest you to send it to repair.
Besides that is necessary to open it, if is not done properly with the right tools, it's easy to damage the LCD screen assembly.
Also, if it's not opened right, is possible to damage permanently the mainboard if is bent or warped.
If still you want to proceed to open it, it will be easy to spot if the connector of the LCD screen is not firmly attached, or if there is residues of water damage (usually green or white dust spread in several parts of the electronics, causing electrical shorts).
maybe there is no memory caused by a flat or stuffed lithium battery or battery charging circuit in the pin 570. fix: leave unit to charge for 24 h if the battery still dosnt charge because it is over discharged, then you may be able to push some charge in it after the battery is unplugged, after opening the case, and removing the circuit board.
