Homepage changes from Google.com to Google.com/es

Hi. I am running Vista 64 bit and IE7.
I keep resetting my homepage in the options to Google.com but it keeps on changing (seemingly at random) to google.com/es.
I live in Spain and bought my pc here but they re-installed english vista at the shop.
This isn't exactly critical...just damned annoying that I can't seem to solve such a simple little thing. Thanks

One thing I always do when changing home pages in IE7 is this, I open it and let whatever page is set as default to load [in your case [google.com/es], then I type in the page I want to set as my default page which in your case again should be [google.com]. The I go to the tools menu and [click] 'Internet Options', when the Window Appears Simply [Click] 'Use Current' and the browsers default page will change to the page you have currently open. I hope that helps

First of all you can try this, when you open your homepage go to the prefs tab on the right side of the search bar

on this section: interface language
set it to make sure it is on english and go to the save prefs button and save it.

if it goes back to the /es again check your internet options page and make sure it is stating google.com as your homepage.

if there is a suspected virus or what is called a homepage hijacker, you can d/l spybot search and destroy 1.6 for free.

it has the ability to remove most any ad/spyware in your computer and plus in the advanced user section of the program you actually have the option of locking your homepage from internet explorer changes, plus it lets u know if something is trying to chancge it without you knowing.

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html this is the site page

scroll down to the downloads section and d/l the program. when you first open the program go through the steps and after you complete it, you can go and do updates to the program or use the update definitions that are right below the current 1.6.2 program.

no u do not have to make a donation or pay for the program. the company is a very reputable company. i have used spybot for over 6 years now and have it used on all my computers at home.

if you still have a issue let me know and i can show you another program or 2 that will lock out and also check for hijacker programs.

How do I make google my home pag

Hello Peter,

In order to prevent programs like AVG from changing your homepage please pay attention to those options during the installing of these programs. They will often ask you to install additional toolbars or change your homepage.

To change your homepage please do the following:

  2. Open the options/preferences
  3. Usually the field for homepages is in the general tab or first menu you get when you open the options
  4. Enter your desired homepage address in the homepage field

It depends on the browser you are using?
For Chrome do the following:
Reset your browser settings:
  1. Click the Chrome menu snp_9721c573e41777fba43e1498ad084e3b160c_2696434_en_v2 on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Show advanced settings and find the "Reset browser settings" section.
  4. Click Reset browser settings.
  5. In the dialogue that appears, click Reset. Note: When the "Help make Google Chrome better by reporting the current settings" tick box is selected you are anonymously sending Google your Chrome settings. How do I make google my search engine instead of Ask.com?

To set your homepage to google using IE go to the gear icon/internet options set homepage to (http://www.google.ca/ in Canada or .com or whatever country you are in) Using Firefox Firefox icon/Options/options general tab home page type (http://www.google.ca/ in Canada or .com or whatever country you are in) Using Opera Opera icon/settings/preferences general tab home page type (http://www.google.ca/ in Canada or .com or whatever country you are in) Using Safari either you have a set of horizontal bars at the top right then choose settings/ On startup open a specific page or pages, set pages sometimes the gear icon is at the top right if so choose preferences/homepage type (http://www.google.ca/ in Canada or .com or whatever country you are in) Using Chrome Gear icon/preferences/homepage type (http://www.google.ca/ in Canada or .com or whatever country you are in) If you have ask you likely have trojans, hjackers. To remove them get a free to use copy of spynomore (use it to locate only) to remove what it finds you have to unhide hidden folders and system files and delete them manually also you have to learn to use the registry to delete what it finds manually. in 64 bit computers many items will not have the exact path but will be in wow6432node

I wanted the google toolbar on my Yahoo Homepage not google Homepage

You will need to reset your homepage to Yahoo. When you installed the toolbar (which will be available on ALL sites) it set your homepage to Google. If you're using Internet Explorer, click on Tools > Internet Options. On the General tab, type in the address (http://www.yahoo.com/) into the Homepage box. If you're using Chrome, click the wrench icon, then click Options. Select Open the Following Pages, then type in the address. If you're using Firefox, click Tools > Options. Type the address in the Homepage box on the General tab (if you're using a newer version of Firefox, click the orange Firefox button in the top left corner and select Options).

I changed the settings on my homepage but want to get all of the old settings back how can i do this.

Here try this It is browsers dependent:
1.For Internet Explorer.
  • Hold Down the "Windows Key+ R" on the keyboard it will open the run box. Or click on start then Run.
  • Type in the run Box "inetcpl.cpl"
  • Now you will find internet properties type at the below in the home page box the page you want as your home page and then click on Ok.
2.For Google Chrome.

When you open Google Chrome, it shows a default homepage containing "Most Visited" page list and Bookmarks history.
If you like a blank page as homepage or want to change the homepage to some other website, then this tutorial will help you:
1. Open Chrome Options.
2. Now you have 2 options to change Homepage:
Option A:
Select "Open the following pages" option in "On startup" section and click on "Add" button.
Now type about:blank in URL box to set homepage as blank or if you want to set it some other URL, then enter the full URL or select it from "Recently visited sites" list if present.
Click on "Add" button and then "Close" the options window.
Option B:
Select "Open this page" option in "Home page" section and enter about:blank in the text box to set the homepage to blank or enter your desired website URL.
That's it. Now close the options window.
3. Now you can enjoy your desired homepage in Chrome as I have set it to a blank page:
