Question about HP DeskJet 6840 InkJet Printer

Printer thinks lid is open

I used to be able to push down and toward the back on the right side of the hp6840 printer lid to get it to work. Now no matter what I do the printer thinks the lid is open

I followed the link below and found that the plastic bar of the sensor had broken off. I used a gel super glue to glue it back. Not sure how long this will work. The plastic component probably should have been replaced but so far so good.

Lid wont close


On the right side of the lid is a small triangular peg that pushes down on a switch that tells the printer that the cover is open.
After a lot of use, the insides of the printer get dusty and sticky, and the switch doesn't move easily.
Add to the fact, that HP constructed the switch in a pretty unintelligent way, so the triangle doesn't push the switch down, but the switch has to "glide" backwards from under the triangle.
If the switch is covered in old sprayed ink, the friction on the surface of the switch prevents it from gliding backwards under the lid, and the lid won't close correctly.
To resolve that, use a cotton swab with cleaning alcohol to clean the surface of the switch.
While doing so, also check if you can EASILY push the switch towards the back of the printer.
Do NOT press directly down on the switch. It's a flimsy piece of plastic that "bends" down, instead of swivelling backwards and closing the contact as it's supposed to.

Lid at printing end does not seem to fit rite....must press down on right side to restore printing. As long as you retain the pressure, it continues printing.


Do you mean that you need to retain the pressure to have good print quality on the right side or you need the pressure to keep the amber status light from showing ?

There is a small optic sensor that functions to indicate if the lid is open or not. The printer will not print as long as it thinks the lid is open. If the lid won't snap down tight enough you can fool the printer by placing a small piece of label or something opaque over the sensor to make it think the lid is closed. The sensor is located on the right side just behind the green adjusting wheel used to adjust the label width guides.

The status and power lights are flashing and the printer carriage is stuck in the far right position. There are no paper jams or any other visible problems. Any help would be appreciated!

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Find the metal clip that is attached to the exposed side of the carriage
  4. Follow the metal clip to the bottom of the carriage. Straight back from the bottom of the carriage is another metal clip that is pointing toward the back of the printer
  5. Using a screwdriver or similar tool, push the metal clip (indicated by call-out 2 in the graphic below) toward the back of the printer.
  6. Gently rock the carriage up and down while pulling the carriage from the right-hand side toward the center of the printer.
  7. If the carriage is still locked in place, push the metal clip
  8. After the carriage is pulled out from the right-hand side of the printer, remove both print cartridges
  9. clean the connections and reconnect them
  10. Push the carriage back to the right-hand side of the printer.
  11. Close the top cover.
Properly storing the ink cartridges will increase their life. The following are guidelines for storing cartridges for future use.

How do i change the black ink cartridge on a lexmark x2580 printer


With printer on and connected to computer do the following:

Open top cover.
Fix top cover on open position, using the plastic sustain part located on the right side inside the printer.
Wait for ink carriage for taking position in the middle of the printer rail.
Open cartridge top cover.
Pull cartridge toward yourself and snap it out.
Do the same in reverse order to fit new cartridge.

Remember to remove cello tape strip from new cartridge nozzle.

Do alignment procedure after replacement.

INK SYSTEM HAS FAILED.


Probably not the right way, but I did get it off.
Start at the front, right where it says HP just to the right of the paper tray. Disengage the clip underneath and pull it down and out a bit. Then slide a knife into the gap between side and top, from the top, 2 or 3 cm in from the front. If you feel around, you should be able to push a clip downwards. Then do the same near the back and the rest is easy. Good luck.

Paper jam in a Kodak ESP- Printer


i had the printer jam issue when there wasnt a real printer jam.

if you push the print cartidges off to the right, then reach in and push down on the cleaning head that is located on the left on the inside, it pops back down into place and voila, printer jam error message fixed.

There could be 4 possibilities.

1. Ink cartridges lids are open which is not allowing cartridges to move freely.
2. Ink cartridges carriage will not move from its original position(left) when front cover is opened
3. Encoder strip is Dirty.
4. Encoder strip is Out of position.

Solution:
1. Open the front cover and check if ink cartridges lids are properly snapped in.

2. Turn the printer off and pull out the power cable from power socket, open the front cover and manually center the ink cartridges carriage.
Clean the metallic rod inside the printer using WD40 or Kleenex from Left corner to right corner properly.

3. Cleaning the encoder strip:
a. printer should be off and disconnected from power.
b. open the front cover.
c. Using a dry, lint free cloth, pinch the encoder strip on the right-hand side of the cartridge carriage and pull your fingers across it toward the right-hand side of the printer and you can move the cartridges carriage to clean the strip completely.
d. Note: The encoder strip is a narrow band of clear plastic and can be difficult to see without direct lighting running parallel to metallic rod.
e. Close the printer and try again to print.

4. Repositioning the Encoder strip.
a. Remove the power cord from the printer.
b. Open the front cover.
c. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.
d. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right.
e. Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up, to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge carrier.
f. Gently press the strip first to the rear, and then forward, to ensure that it is seated correctly.
g. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right, to check the positioning of the encoder strip.
h. Once the encoder strip has been re-seated, close the scanner lid.
i. Re-connect the power cord to the printer and try again to print.
