Question about MSI 865GM2 LS P4/FSB 800/SATA/8X/V/A/L/MATX Motherboard (NEWITEM63718162)

1 Answer

My Msi 865gm2 motherboard won't complete loading windows (any)

Have tried win2k, winxp and win7 all same results. copies files and when loading drivers files it just freezes and video shuts off and HDD spins down but system power stays on. Could this be a config problem in the bios? after reboot it seems to freeze when windows takes over the video during boot up, just before the logon screen would show up. Tried diff processors, video cards, tested RAM and processors on other machines.

Thank you for your response. That solution would work if I could ever boot entirely into windows. Problem is it never gets there. It hangs right before the login prompt would display. IOW from a new OS reload, windows installs up to the point of booting into the OS for the first time but then it just goes to sleep. That is why this one has me stumped.

There is no sound driver for your motherboard. Your motherboard is not Windows 7 ready. It is too old! Before you installed windows 7 did you run the windows 7 checker? It is available on the Windows website.

You are seeing errors from the setup program like this:

"Setup was unable to complete the installation... " and when you check the log file in c:\windows\s3setup.log, you see something like this:

New XPPro Install... Can't see HD

Try to download a widows XP based driver for your Promise Controller from the manufacturer's website and install it. This is really necessary. If it does not solve the problem, you reinstall windows XP. When XP begins installtion it flashes a message like this: "Press F2 to install a third party driver......" Press F2 and insert the Promise controller driver in a floppy. This way it will work. (I hope so..) Note: Do not remove floppy untill Windows finishes installation
