Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

No brightness keys

HP Service center says, that this is a software problem. During warranty they changed the mainboard. But that did not resolve it.

HP Products and service quality are trash and i will never ever buy any of their products.

How can they dare to sell such units and leave customers in the rain ?

Thanks a lot for responding! From here in Thailand there is no access to HP live chat and mail support ( all dead links ) Also the Service Center in Phuket had not been able to resolve this problem.

All latest drivers had to get downloaded from the hp website anyway because HP does not even provide driver discs. It`s a new machine with a fresh installed XP.

    All drivers fromhttp://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec...

were installed and HP web Support is simply not available in Thailand!

US support refuses to assist and offers only a dead Bangkok phone number nearly a 1000 km away.

I am unable to get brightness option in laptop, i tried so many things.plz help

Common complaint with this unit.
First you should try installing the HP Software Framework and HP Hotkey Support. After installing this two pieces of software reboot your computer and see if the issue is resolved.

If this doesn't resolve the issue you should install and run HP Support Assistant. This will scan your computer and attempt to locate and install any other missing software for your notebook.

How do i adjust brightness in hp g60

Here's how to adjust the screen brightness for a laptop in Windows 7:
  1. Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options.
  2. Click on "Change plan settings" for your laptop's selected power plan (either Balanced or Power saver).
  3. Now edit your plan settings by moving the sliders next to "Adjust plan brightness" at the bottom. You'll be able to change the brightness for when your laptop is On battery power, or when it's Plugged in.
  4. Once you've adjusting the brightness settings to your liking, then click on the 'Save changes' button.
Alternatively, here is another way: From the Windows desktop, hold the fn key and press the f7 key c00776226.jpg to increase or the f8key c00776225.jpg to decrease the brightness of the display. If using the function keys does not resolve the problem and you have a Lid Actuator on your particular model, check the movement of the Lid Actuator switch to determine that it moves freely and is not stuck. NOTE: The key numbers (f7 or f8 ) may vary depending on the notebook PC; however, the images on the keys should be similiar. If you reboot the PC after using the function keys to change the LCD brightness settings, the brightness may return to the default setting on some models, which is based on the power source-battery or AC. This is not an error. The notebook is functioning as designed. If the notebook returns to the default setting after rebooting on your particular model, use the function keys to change the brightness back to the desired settings.

My sony dsc T200 Digicam shutt off so many time during taking photos... sony world service center said of changing the mainboard. and i just want to know how much it will cost please.

Typically, for a camera service center to even open the case and diagnose the problem is a minimum charge of $100 to $150. Add the cost of parts to fix the issue and you'll be looking at an additional $50-100.

This particular model camera is old enough that Sony may not even have parts available to fix it, in which case you're still out the fee to have it diagnosed.

On the other hand, if you have a square trade warranty or a manufacturer's warranty still in effect on the camera, you might be okay - An intermittent problem like this would indicate a defect and would be covered.

The last possibility is to get a quote from your local camera repair shop - Most major cities of 100,000 or more will have at least 1.

Gateway mx6453 won't start up

I would say that the problem is with the video card, and yes, you may need to replace entire mainboard. Check your warranty period, if it is still valid, just go to service center to get it fix, no need to ask around.
When replacing mainboard, your files, softwares and settings is still in place. Unless you also replace the hard drive, you will have the computer back as is used to.

HP Pavillion dv9500t lcd screen is extremly dark. I can barely see anything once it is booted up. I can hook up an external monitor and the laptop functions properly with exception of the laptop screen....

From the Windows desktop, hold the fn key and press the f7 key c00776226.jpg to increase or the f8 key c00776225.jpg to decrease the brightness of the display. If using the function keys does not resolve the problem and you have a Lid Actuator on your particular model, check the movement of the Lid Actuator switch to determine that it moves freely and is not stuck. NOTE: The key numbers ( f7 or f8 ) may vary depending on the notebook PC; however, the images on the keys should be familiar. Check the movement of the Lid Actuator switch The Lid Actuator switch is available on some models. It is a small button or switch located above the keyboard near the hinge for the LCD. Pressing this switch when the computer is on may turn the notebook display off, or it may cause the notebook to enter a different power state. Press the switch two to three times while observing the display. If the display does not return to normal brightness when the switch is released, the switch may be sticking and need to be repaired. Contact HP service and support for further assistance. If the display turns off when the switch is pressed, the power management function may be set to hibernate or turn off when the lid is closed. Install updated BIOS and drivers To resolve certain hardware and software issues, use HP Health Check to automatically search the HP web site for an updated BIOS as well as any updated software and drivers. To launch HP Health Check, follow the steps below.
  1. Click Start , type health into the search field, and then select HP Health Check from the list. HP Health Check displays a list of available BIOS, software, and driver updates for your particular model.

I have hp pavilion dv6226us and when booted up the screen stays dark. You can see display only if you shine a light onto the screen. I tried to turn up the brightness and did't have any luck.

The VGA card or the VGA driver is not properly installed, perhaps.Try reinstalling the driver.
If you suspect the monitor brightness controls then try fiddling with them untill the brightness is good enough.
Check monitor cable also(VGA).
