Question about Ubi Soft Chessmaster 10th Edition

Open Question

Black screen Installed Chessmaster 10th Edition onto my Dell Precision 530 (twin 2.2GHz CPUs, 3GB Ram, and 100 GB HD) with Windows XP (SP3) and all the updates. Launched the program, after the initial intro video and a couple seconds of animated chess clock, the screen goes black. My PC won't even let me launch Task Manager, and I have to do a reboot by power it down. Help!!!

SOURCE: Hi, my chessmaster 10 edition

actual your wrong on all acounts... your chessmaster should run just fine on your version of windows.. it sounds like it glitching because of you computer itself.. now chess doesnt sound like a game that needs alot of graphics to play but the graphics card can be one.. i would suggest checking your core temp (cpu fan) in your bios (look it up buddy on how to's) and the search normal temps.. your computer needs to run at a healthy temp or no matter how good your computer is it will overheat and become useless... but it can also be your processor or your about of ram... try deleteing old files you dont use to make disk space and after that go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup.. and then after that is done system tool> disdefragment and let that run.... and if that doesnt help tell me and i can give more suggestions if it fails

Mamimum RAM for User @ 3GB using boot.ini switch on 4GB Physical RAM

The DOS will always take a percentage of the physical RAM on the motherboard leaving the rest for the User. By default the Windows Operating System will use 50% of the physical RAM installed on the motherboard leaving the user the remaining 50% this can be changed using a switch in the boot.ini file

The /3GB was originally meant to be used in systems that have 3GB or more of RAM something that is no longer quite as rare as it used to be Windows XP SP3 will support upto 4GB although on a 32bit (x86) version of Windows will acually see 3.25gb that is the limitation.

However, even if you don't have 3 GB or more of memory, you can still use the /3GB switch. the switch can have any value between 2048 (2 GB) and 3072 (3 GB) megabytes. It needs to be expressed in decimal notation.

The /3GB switch applies to 32-bit systems only (x86).

Example with Windows XP SP3 Home Edition with the recovery console installed this gives you the option of default 50-50% split or the 3GB switch 75-25% split.

The /noexecute parameter enables, disables, and configures Data Execution Prevention (DEP), a set of hardware and software technologies designed to prevent harmful code from running in protected memory locations using the optin switch enables DEP only for operating system components, including the Windows kernel and drivers. Administrators can enable DEP on selected executable files by using the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT).

The /burnmemory parameter specifies the amount of memory, in megabytes, that Windows cannot use in this example, /burnmemory=128 will reduce the physical RAM memory that is available to Windows by 128 MB.

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 3GB Switch" /noexecute=optin /3GB /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition " /noexecute=optin /burnmemory=128 /fastdetect
C:CMDCONSBOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

Check out the noexecute and the 3GB switch plus all available boot.ini switches HERE

I suggest that you use AnalogX MaxMem it is a realtime physical memory management program that automatically ensures that you always have as much physical memory available as possible used with the 3GB switch you should never have memory issues ever again.

Hi, my pc is not working well since i installed os xp home edition, its running too slow in spite it has 512 ram and 40 hd,i havent installed the drivers i mean nothing and th cpu usage is stil 100%. what...

Windows XP needs at least 1 GB of RAM to function reasonably and for best performance, go to 2 GB. But that might not be the main problem. You really need to install the system drivers to make the O/S work with the hardware. Then run the command MSCONFIG from the command line and click the startup tab to see what might be running in the background. Uncheck the things you don't need.

Installed some new ram now audio bus and ethernet

What kind of system are you on? Some older computers BIOS will not support more than 1 or 2 gb ram. Check the specifications of your motherboard to ensure your BIOS can see that memory.

Windows won't see all of my 4GB of RAM but BIOS does! Why?

Windows xp will usually only see 3.5 gbs of ram even in your motherboard can support more. WIndowns vista does recognize more RAM or i also believe windows xp 64bit recognizes more ram. Nothing wrong with ram or your computer its just your operating system.
