You've either got the wrong battery or did something wrong when you installed it. You must make sure that the main power switch at the bottom is turned off.

I had that same problem before. My gbeat is working fine now after I followed instructions here:

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/GigabeatSInfo

Read through the link under in Gigabeat S Code Injection Tool. You should be able to dl there the recovery firmware.

My gigabeat f40 will not turn on, also it will not charge

I don't know if you still have this problem, but it could be possible that your battery is worn out. I remember reading this in the manual a long time ago. You'll have to contact toshiba itself and get yourself a new battery.

MES60V suddenly stopped charging.

Download, and install the firmware. It should work after that. It might of formatted the storage partition of the device, but you can resync it after you update the firmware on the device. You can get the firmware here: Gigabeat S Firmware.

Will not turn own it reads contact manufacturer for repair.

The hard drive became disconnected. I took out all of the screws to the outer case (5), gently slid cover down until the small ribbon connector for the power buttons is exposed, unclip and remove. Set aside back of unit (at this point the hard drive might come with it if the ribbon has come out of the back) at the top there is a two screw metal bracket that covers the ribbon connection for the hard drive. Remove the ribbon from the main unit and gently force it back into the hard drive ribbon connector. once fully seated you can reinsert the other end, replace the two screw bracket in a way that holds the ribbon down. Slide the backing back far enough to reinsert the power buttons ribbon connector and then test it before you throw in those last 5 screws.

Frozen

i'm thinking the hard drive is messing up... you know when i dropped my gigabeat S30 it wasn't working n it was freezing and the video files weren't playing at all. it would freeze when i turn on or play video. then i turned it off and then back on using the battery switch. it said "contact the manufacturer for repair" with a yield sign. i really thought i killed it...but i still had my hopes high to fix it myself somehow n i really thought it was from the hard drive. so i took it in my hand and gave it a shake on my palm. like i actually hit it on my palm for once n then i turned it on and it worked =D fineee.... i was so happy n now it still works fine ;)

i hope that helps

that's an indication that the media center program has loaded but frozen at a certain point [blue screen] before fully loading.
indicates a hard drive problem... prolly the head can't read the hard drive...did you drop it?
cuz when i dropped it...that happened to me...it froze on the menu...then i used the battery button to turn on n off..till i got the "contact the manufacturer for repair" with a yield sign message. i really thought i killed it...but i still had my hopes high to fix it myself somehow n i really thought it was from the hard drive. so i took it in my hand and gave it a shake on my palm. like i actually hit it on my palm for once n then i turned it on and it worked =D fineee.... i was so happy n now it still works fine ;)

Gigabeat froze -_-

sound like the hard drive connection came apart.(wire came off of the board or the drive) you will have to open it up to fix it.
