ECS Motherboard GeForce6100SM-M

I have formatted and reloaded Winxp SP3 onto this compoter. There is now no sound and Device Manager reports the following. 'Audio Device on High Definition Bus Code 28.
On investigation it seem that drivers are not required for this device.
When i try to update the drivers everything goes blank.
I believe that theonly way to cure this is to fit a sound card to the motherboard.
Would you agree

I disabled the onboard sound and fitted a cheap sound card. I shall not buy one of these motherboards again.

I reloaded window XP on my Dell E521 desktop and now i HAVE NO SOUND

You'll need to download and install the appropriate audio driver from the 5 different choices listed here Product Support
Choose the driver for your particular original product. A Dell E521 had several audio systems. I would look in Device Manager of Control Panel and see if your audio system is named or is just listed as an unknown device with a YELLOW BANG (!) beside it. Try each one starting with newest. If it isn't for your system, it will likely advise you during the execution of the downloaded choice. If so, cancel installation and try the next one.

GeForce6100SM-M lan problem

Hi dadynidhen, there is another way to install the LAN driver & that is through windows system properties. Find the yellow question mark again & follow the instructions below.

Right click once on the yellow question mark, a window will open & Left click once on “update driver”. Windows hardware wizard will open. Click No, not at this time. Than click the next button. Another window will open. Left click once in the circle next to, Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). Than click the next button. Again, another window will open. We want to remove the green check mark next to, Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...). Left click on the green check mark once & it will go away.
Click the browse button, click the + sign next to my computer. Find the folder in your system that holds the 32bit LAN driver. High-light the 32bit folder by left clicking on it once. Than click OK.
Windows will see the driver files & install the driver. Once done restart the system. Run windows update service. There may be an update for the LAN driver.

Good luck!
Mike

Problem with audio device

First I would remove the drivers again from the device manager and redetect. Then I would check that you are actually using the correct Sound driver, often a OEM will include a disk with drivers that is not relevant to the actual Hardware. You should know whether the card was installed as an upgrade, so the drivers needed may not be included. I would also try diveragent.com to autodetect the drivers.
