Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hello I have an NEC Versa Series laptop and it comes with a DVD drive Fujitsu MHT2060AH. The drive was working but sometime last week it stopped working. There is no light on the drive and will not eject. I was advised to eject manually with a paper clip and it worked but I still can't see the DVD drive on my computer. However when I check device manager the drive is there. I also ran the regedit program and deleted the upper and lower filters but the drive is still missing from my computer. Pls advise how I can use the drive again. Thanks Choi

Hello I tried your suggestion but the drive is still missing and the drive will not eject automatically when I restart (there is still no light on the drive).

No response no spin up. I don't get what you mean. Are you asking me to unscrew the screws on the bottom of the drive and put it back again?

Ok, go back to your drive in hardware manager, right click on the dvd player and uninstall then reboot your computer so it will reinstall the driver. It may be that simple might not, but we'll start there

sounds like it's toast, no response, no spin up? one more thingg to do is eject it like you did before, you should have one screw underneath it holding it in, take it out and pull the drive out. Put it back in making sure it is seating correctly. besides that I'm sorry to say it's dead

yeah, just to make sure it is seating ok. If you eject the tray, it will give you something to pull on

Format/restore computer to factory settings

Press F11 at system startup to get to the NEC recovery menu. From there, you can restore your factory settings. However, a "destructive" recovery will wipe the hard drive, including your personal files. Best to back those up first before performing the recovery.

Hope this helps - remember to rate :)

If you cannot see the speaker icon in the taskbar, click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and tick place icon in the taskbar. That's if a driver has been installed for your sound device which is a creative sounblaster I think.
