Question about Canon EOS-20D Digital Camera with 17-85mm Lens

1 Answer

I have a canon eos 20d. I used a different memory card reader to download pictures onto my pc. When I put the memory card back into my camera, I got a CF reading. I bought a new one and tried to format the new memory card. It wouldn't work either, it couldn't format the new card. Sometimes it says err 99 but if I remove the battery that goes away and it just says err cf

Check the pins in the memory card slot. It sounds like a pin is bent causing a short.

Not a good idea to post your phone # and e-address on this or any other site.

This question arrived on FixYa.

Problem is the camera firmware isn't compatible with the software possible needs a Canon free update or purchase a card reader and download your pictures stepping around the camera.

The computer will look at this card reader with the memory card installed as an external hard drive or memory device.

Download you pictures and then do a safely eject or eject before removing the memory card, once back in the camera remember to format the memory card this give the camera a nice clean surface to work with again.

Well, yes something has changed if the computer you are using is connected to the internet then it has had several auto updates to the software and or security anti virus.

Okay here is what I'll suggest. Uninstall the camera software and reinstall, go onto the Canon web site and download any (all) firmware updates for your camera and bring your camera back up to date.

Down load your pictures as normal.

If this doesn't work purchase a memory card reader and step around the camera all together, the card reader is plugged into a computer USB port and the memory card plugs into it. Make sure you get a card reader that has the correct port for your memory card.

The computer looks at this card reader as an external hard drive or Mass Storage Device.

You can then download your pictures to a file folder on your computer and open that folder in the camera software.

Myself I don't use the camera software it's generally clunky and offers far less control over the picture then what the industry standard for image manipulation offers.

Any Photoshop program from Elements to CS5 will offer far more control then any camera software. The nice thing about a card reader and Photoshop is that you can change cameras and the programing and card reader stay the same. This system doesn't care what name is on the wrapper (camera)

Cheers have a great time with your camera

MY CANON EOS 10D WILL NOT DOWNLOAD ONTO WINDOWS 7. I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO CHANGE COMMUNICATIONS SETTING TO PTP BUT I DO NOT SEEM TO HAVE THIS FUNCTION ON THE MENU. HELP!

My fix for this would be to purchase a memory card reader and an enter level Photoshop imaging program software. The memory card reader to purchase is the one that does all the camera memory cards. Photoshop Elements 5 is one of the programs I use on my PC and it was only $120.00.

Doing this will step around any camera firmware and computer software incompatibilities AND you can use this for any camera memory card so when you do update your camera the software issue is a non issue

Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Pictures cut horizontally and shifted when downloaded onto PC

I am not very sure, but I think this could happen if your memory card is faulty. And if you were transferring the images directly using camera and its cable, try to change the method and use a memory card reader instead and see if things get better. I am thinking that you can see all the pictures just fine in the camera's display.

Canon EOS 20D Digital zoom failed

Hi there,
The autofocus mechanism on some lenses can be damaged if you manually focus while the camera is attempting to autofocus. Basically, you would be working against the motor and gears.
There is no need to download software before using the camera, however, I would suggest going to Canon's website and downloading the firmware upgrades for it. Here's the link:

Hope this helps!

Canon 20d raw to pc

Have you ever been able to view the pictures on your pc?
Have you got a card reader that can view the card contents externaly from the camera?
I found the Canon software is quite as happy from a card reader as it is reading from the camera. (I have the next model up, 30D.)
Have you tried upgrading your software, or tried using a third party image program to read the raw files?
Over to you!

Canon EOS 20D wont connect to PC

First of all, I think you'll get better results by using a Card Reader. It's faster and you're not so dependent on the camera and computer being in some sort of "sync"

They are soo cheap now and more dependable. Computers aren't so fussy about different card readers being plugged into them.

I think you're problem might be solved by re-installing your Canon software and then following the instructions about interfacing the camera w/computer.......I'd still go for the reader.
