Question about Electronics - Others

Hi, sounds like you understand power converters. I have a 96 Hitchhiker fifth wheel with a 40 amp magnatex converter with bat. chager. The problem I have is that is does not charge the battery with the genarator or 110 direct power. It does charge with the trailer conection.? I do also get power from the 110 line or genarator but only parts of the trailer. Nothing seams to work through the converter. I have checked all fuses and breakers and they look ok. Any thoughts or ideas would be much apreciated. I no nothing about converters and how they work. How do tell if a converter is bad? I know it has power to the converter but that as far as I can track. Thanks so much.. Scott.. Denver Colorado 1share@live.com

It sounds like you may have some wiring issues. The inverter simply changes DC battery voltage to 120 volts AC. This will allow you to have AC voltage without running a generator.(noise issue). You probably need to find a well recommended RV repair shop and have a tech look things over.

We have electricity to operate the microwave and plugs but the lights are operating off of the batteries. Is this a converter problem? If so is it a fuse on the converter? Doesn't appear the aux...

The microwave and outlets are on a 115-120vAC source running through the breakers box. The lights are 12vDC running through the converter then to the fuse panel. Locate the inverter in the compartments up front, possibly behind a panel that can slide or screws to hold the panel. Depending on the Mfr if the inverter, you should see a blade style buss fuse on the side, typically near the 12vDC output. Use a multimeter to check for the 120vAC input and 12vDC output. AC power-yes and DC power-no, check the fuse, replace if necessary. If the fuse is good, the inverter has blown and needs to be replaced. If you have AC & DC power on the inverter, go to the batteries and check for voltage without the inverter supplying power. Pull the fuse off the inverter or switch the battery disconnect switch. If the batteries have little to no voltage, cells may be dead. Take the batteries to a local auto parts store to get checked to see if the battery needs a charge or replacement.

96 Benz ran out of gas other day, got it filled up & drove home (20 miles). Next day drove about 40 miles, left car running in park for about 15 min, when I left car was stalling like it was running o

You never leave a car running, as it will
overheat the Exhaust Converter
When you run out of fuel, you sometimes
ruin the Fuel Pump
It depends on gas to lubricate it,as strange as it sounds
Check fuel pressure & volume at the motor with a gauge

How to install Scosche - 2-Channel Adjustable Line-Out Converter

If it is an active converter and not passive, you should have three power wires, black goes to ground, yellow to battery, and red to the remote/amp (blue) wire off the deck. Then there should be four input wires. These connect to your speakers, white-white/black to left, grey-grey/black to right. Black line indicates ground, or (-). Then simply hook up the RCA jacks to your amp! Caution: the Scosche only accepts 80w of power, 40 per channel. Otherwise you rick blowing the converter, possibly the amp (usually a mosfet), and then possibly the subs, though not likely.

Install a second DuoTherm A/C in a fifth wheel travel trailer.

You do not without removing wall board. You can do a nice neat job of white conduit on the outside of the wall and ceiling. I have done it and my customers are happy with it.

If it is the fuse for major engine control electronics that is blowing (PCM, etc.) as soon after energizing, try disconnecting the O2 sensors. The 12V heater in the sensor could be shorting to ground.
