Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I just installed an LG 22x Internal Super writer DVD and my computer is not recognizing it. I have a jumper connecting the other drive. It is not picking up either one. Both open but nothing else. The lights do come on when I put in the software CD but it goes no further. My PC is a Dell Dimension 2400 Series Please help.... Thanks, Pat

The cable is connected to the motherboard. I bypassed the one connection on the jumper so I only have my new drive working. The computer reads that connection. I do not think I made one the maste and on the slave. I do not think I know how to do that. Could the jumper be bad??

Got it. Thank you. I just bought a used computer for my kids. It isa a Dell with 512 MB of RAM. Would it help speed up the computer to put in one of the 128 MB cards from the old one? It is necessary and how do I know if they are compatible??

Ok your getting power to the drive thats a start, your computer is probably not recognizing because-:

1. you have put the cable in the wrong way around, turn off computer, remove power lead, try turning the cable around and placing into the drive the other way.
2. Is the cable connected to the motherboard (main circuit board)?
3. Try these things and put power lead back in and turn on, windows should detect and automatically install the relevant drivers.

Try this, any luck? if not get back to me.

Glad to help.

no the cable is not bad, on the back of your dvd drives there is a little hole with a row of pins and a little white or grey plug that sits over then, you need to make one drive a master and one a secondary by placing the plug in the right spots by moving the little plug, these are jumper settings, their should be a little sticker near there or on the drives to tell you what settings mean what, make one the master and one the secondary and connect both to the two plugs on the cable, they should now not confict each other and both detect, make sure your computer is off and unplugged when doing this.

ok no the 128mg ram chip will not be compatable or work, the only way to upgrade your ram from 512mg would be to buy another 512mg ram chip identical to your other one, easiest way to tell you would be take it out carefully, making sure your not on carpet when you do so to prevent static electricity damaging the ram and to go into you local or trusted computer warehouse or shop and buy another 512mg, to upgrade to 1gb or (1024mb), that fills 2 slots out of 4 on your motherboard, you could instead buy 2 1gb ram chips and fill 2 slots giving you 2gb ram making sure you get the correct type. ie DD2 or DD3 type ram, check on your 512mg ram label, please note in computers you need to either fill 1, 2, or 4 ram slots with ram for the computer to work, you can't fill 3 slots ok, now you could also fill your slots with 2gb or I think 4gb chips too, more expensive though, speeds up computer by having more ram but going over 4gb won't make much of a difference, I am very happy to help you for free but please make sure you rate my solutions and advice where our website asks, thankyou.

Another great way to speed up your computer is to defragment the hard- drive, by using windows defragmenter is fine, it works by collecting all the data or information on your hard-drive and re organising it to run in a more efficient manner, also always make sure your computer is guarded by antivirus software to protect from viruses and other nastys while surfing the internet, also open up your antivirus program and make sure it is set to automatically update or run regular updates within the program to make sure you have up to date virus definitions, please remember to vote, thankyou Pat,

Look on the back of the old drive to check the jumper settings (master/slave) and set the new drive exactly the same. If that doesn't work, you may have to connect the drive to a different IDE connection on the motherboard... Also, check the BIOS settings for your IDE drives and make sure the one for the CD is set to AUTO or CD-ROM.

Home built PC won't recognize a CD in the DVD players.

Make sure that your DVD drive detected and on the list in Device Manager as LG GH22NP20. If it already on the list, but still have the same problem, ask to the store where you bought that device for changing with the other one.

LG GH22LS40 will not work

You will need to check few things to get it working.

1) See that you have attached your DVD cable on the proper port of your motherboard.

2) See that the required jumper is fixed in proper place of your DVD writer.

3) Power cable of your DVD writer.

I suppose your's is a SATA drive. Disconnect all the sata cables except for the Hard Disk and that of the Writer in question. Boot up and check if the drives works. If not take pains and try installing the drive in another PC (one of your friends'). If it still has the same problem check with where you bought it.

Change the Master/Slave/CableSelect(CS) jumper on the back of the drive (between the power connector and IDE cable)

Check that the IDE cable red stripe goes to pin 1 (closest to power plug) flip cable if needed.

Move Jumper to SLAVE position. reboot. check for drive in os. if it's not there;

Move Jumper to MASTER position. reboot.

If it's still not working replace your IDE cable and try again
