Question about Amana ABB2224DEW / ABB2224DEQ / ABB2224DEB Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Need to defrost behind freezer since fridge won't work.

I have removed the screws from the back of my Amana ABB2224DEB inside freezer back panel since we need to defrost. We have no ice maker but the center plastic vent seems to be holding it on. How do I remove vent without destroying.

Hi, If the vent is plastic, it most likely snaps into place. If you look in the middle of the vent, there is a small tab holding it in.
Since you are needing to defrost this, do you know what to test to find out which part is bad?
I hope this helps and, if you need assistance testing the defrost, please let me know.

Thanks
Vic

Water dripping from freezer into refrigerator

Hi,Most likely the drain in the freezer is clogged up and frozen. Every time when your fridge automatically defrosting defrosted water dripping inside the fresh food compartment. You have to remove the back panel in the freezer and using a hair dryer defrost the drain which is located under the evaporator coil. Then put very hot water through the drain until it goes free.
Yes, you need to remove the back panel inside the freezer, It should have screws that come out then it should pull off and out.

On your model, the defrost drain hole/line is located inside of the freezer behind that back access panel, just remove that back panel, remove your freezer floor panel FIRST(Has 2 screws in front), that simply pulls out, then you will see the drain hole under the evaporator coil. It may be iced up, you will have to clear all of the ice and run hot water down the drain hole.

Once the back panel screws are removed that panel should just pull off, pull hard. Make sure your refrigerator is unplugged first.

Good luck.

Hello,

There is an evaporator fan locateed inside top of the freezer compartment. It is normally hidden behind a plastic cover. It should be running whenever the Fridge is calling for cooling. Check to see if this fan is running. My suspicion is that it is not running. Replace this and you should be back in business.

You will see the fan assembly at the bottom right corner of the picture.

Yes , this is to confirm that the defrosting happens as the vents might be clogged due to malfunction of the defrost timer not acting and so frost will form on the vent to prevent flow of cold air to the fridge.
If after about 8 hours the fridge works perfectly then the defrost timer , the heater or the thermostat is faulty.

Refrigerator warm freezer too cold

If you have already adjusted the controls for temperatures in both compartments and allowed 12 - 24 hours to stabilize and the trend is continuing, there may be a problem with the fans that move the cold air from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. The fridge may also start allowing temperatures to rise in the freezer soon, too.

All of these problems originate in the freezer compartment, where the cooling is done. Behind the back wall; inside the freezer - lies the cooling coils, defrost heater, circulating fan(s) and defrost terminator sensor. Unplug the fridge. Empty the contents of the freezer, remove the ice maker assembly and the back wall plate and you should see these components. If it looks like a large block of snow and ice, the problem is with the defrost circuit components. If clear with a minimal amount of frost, the warm fridge is the result of blocked or limited airflow from this area to the fresh food compartment - likely a failed circulating fan. Plug the fridge back in and check to see if the fan is running - since the fridge is warm, it should be running. The fan or the thermostat will probably need replacing if it is not.

If icing or frost is the problem, you'll need to isolate and replace one or more of the following: defrost heater, defrost terminator or defrost timer. The last two are the usual suspects for this type of failure - but the heating element can fail too. Many times, the defrost timer is accessible from the front of the fridge, behind the kick plate below the freezer door on the right side. Other times it is located in or near the temperature control area.

Good luck!

Model BC21VW Amana Lower Freezer works, Upper Fridge not cooling

I want you to see if you can manually get the refrigerator into defrost. At the bottom of the front of your refrigerator and behind the kick plate is a defrost timer part number 10530703 I want you to pull the kick plate away from the bottom and there should be a metal mount with a hole in the center. Take a flathead screwdriver and slowly turn clockwise until the compressor stops. The refrigerator should remain off for about 25 minutes. During that time open the freezer door and listen for crackling and sizzling sound. That should be sounds of defrost taking place. If timer is not working properly you may need to turn again slowly clockwise after the 25 minutes and replace the timer. The only other 2 things that may be causing this is the defrost heater or defrost thermostat inside the back of freezer and behind the rear panel. Try this first and let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Remove the back panel inside the freezer (if there's a removable panel there. There is a fan behind it - may be source of your problem.

My amana bottom freezer won't cool both the fridge and freezer are warm

I just had the same problem with the same fridge. When I removed the inside panel in the freezer, I found that the cooling/circulation fan had fallen due to the mounting screws having rusted off. I removed the fan housing to get the screw ends out from the back side and remounted the fan with new screws. The fridge and freezer both work fine now and I'm assuming it will for many more years until it happens again.
