How can I fix the pr oblem of my 2000 lincoln ls running hot.
First thing to check is probably a stuck thermostat. Then the water pump. Head leak. The price and ease of most thermostats is usually replaced first, then further troubleshooting if needed.
My car was running hot replaced the hydraulic pump also water pump and thermostat still running hot anyone know what the problem could be this for a lincoln ls 2002
Check the drive belts on the water pump while the engine is running (to see if its turning ok) while it running take cap off header/overflow tank, if pump ok you should see water circulating in the tank, if not have garage check the w/pump) next check the radiator for damage/obstructions ie, anything that stops the air flowing throgh it, also check if radiator fan is working.. check oil level, should be between the min and max marks on the dipstick.. thats about all you can do unless you are a mechanic, there are several other causes, like fuel mixture, faulty sensors ect.that would need to be checked out by a garage..Ihope this helps you find the problem.. good luck

you probably have a vacuum leak. check all your hoses pcv hose for sure. it means the engine is seeing too much air with the fuel.
SOURCE: 2000 lincoln ls heater not working...thermostat?
- If temp guage reads normal, the lack of heat may be due to the Heater Control Valve. Located in front of the radiator. Lower passenger side. A real bugger to replace.
- The plastic cap just over the thermostat is key in re-filling the anti freeze and bleeding air.

Most likely what has happened is that when the thermostat went out the engine over heated and the seal of the valve gaskets to the plastic valve covers got warped and you ahve oil the has dumped into the coil pack area and it has caused 1 or more of the coil packs to go bad as solution #1 has explained. get the gaskets replaced, it sounds like your husband is handy. Its not a difficult procedure just a little time consuming. research the coil packs because at the dealership they are very expensive. People have had alot of good luck buying them on ebay.
