My Mitsubishi 55" will black out after so many minutes

My Mitsubishi 55" rear projection flickers at the top of the screen, then blacks out after 30 minutes or less but the audio is still on. I turn it off, then turn it on and it is fine. However, it has been occurring now more frequently. What is causing this and what needs to be repaired?

    Jan Mczeal,

What is an optical block? and what is a driver in tv jargon? I'm familiar with loading software drivers on servers and PC's. Also, you mention that the tv will shut itself down to protect itself due to the driver, then you mention the cooling system. I will call in a tv repairman but would also know what would he be charging for those items discussed. Thanks... and could you give me more info.

The problem is in the optical block..the driver heats up and shuts to protect itself from total damage..that's why it turns fine after a reset and shuts afterward..this problem will continue until the drive complete gives up..cooling system might not working properly or the drive has an internal short circuit and need to be replaced..a professional service is suggested..

optical block is the circuitry that is in charge of giving you the video output..these drivers i'm talking about are electronic components not software..electronic devices such as yours are equipped with such protection systems..and it will work when a fault is detected..about the cooling system, try to see if there is any cooling fan and if it's working..if the cooling system is working but the heat sink is heating abnormally then the component attached to it is faulty..ask the repairman first how much he would charge you before you ask him to come..part replacement adds cost..so be sure the parts to be replaced are really faulty especially when he wants to buy it for you..

Rear projection TVs are dinosaurs. Sell it if you can get anybody to buy it and get an HDtv they're pretty cheap now not to mention thinner, lighter and better for your eyes. Imagine the space you'll save if you mount it on the wall and the cost of electricity. Not trying to be a jerk but it's time to move into the 21st century. The picture is waaaaay better.

Mitsubishi WS-55613 55 in. rear projection HDTV has no picture but does give blue screen and menus. What is the problem and how can i fix it

The set has three hidden menus, one of which is the option menu--with the Mitsubishi remote and a four digit code in that you can do a hard reset of the entire set---if a glitch has occurred I have seen this fix no sound, bad video, missing inputs, you name it.

It cannot hurt and may help and it is model specific as far as the 4 digit code.

It sounds like the set is loosing high voltage to the 3 crt's. This usually ends up being an expensive repair, if the parts are still available. A new, or at least newer, set might be money better spent.

Black horizontal lines appear after tv is on for 30 minutes

Kellia,

I had the same problem with our VS-55705 Mitsubishi. It seemed to me that this was a problem of heat.

I unplugged the TV and then took the cover off of the back of the it. I then used canned air to blow off the collection of dust from the components. Then I vacuumed as close to everything as I could without touching any of the components. I then used glass cleaner to clean up the surface of the three bulbs.

I plugged in the TV and it has worked perfect ever since. I haven't put the rear cover back on it yet. That could have been all that I needed to do to fix it. I'm too busy enjoying a nice picture to try putting it back on. Cleaning the bulbs really helped the quality of the picture.

Good Luck!
