Replace timing chain cover on 1999 chevy van 2500

should be able to get the cover off with the engine in the frame. Just take out the grille and header support, then disassemble the front of the engine. If you are dead set on removing the engine, she comes out the front after taking everything out of the way.

1999 Chevy Astro Van. Don't know exact model # of

You should have a 4l60E in your astro van. Which is electrically controlled, so no vacuum modulator. However, to address the ventilation selector not working... look for a vacuum line exiting the firewall and going to the passenger rear of the intake manifold. You will likely find it broken or disconnected there.

first if you have a chiltons manual check the troubleshooting /diagnostic codes. Check fuel filter. check the codes for the computer. sounds like the computers sending back a kill engine order.
