The water will not go down and the start light blink constant. I've kept it cleaned each month. Can I return it to be fixed.

Mr coffee problems


You didn't indicate a specific model. So, I'm going to assume yours is relatively the same as my JWX27.

Let me start by clarifying what the red light indicates.

A solid red light indicates the cleaning cycle is in progress. A blinking red light indicates the coffeemaker is off, but due to be cleaned. When the coffeemaker is due to be cleaned, the red light will continue to blink while the coffeemaker is off until the cleaning cycle has been completed fully. The entire cleaning process takes about an hour and a half. And, it is not intuitive. So, here are my instructions.

With the coffeemaker off (with the red light blinking), pour four cups of pure white vinegar (no water added) into the reservoir. Don't short the amount. You'll need four cups to complete the cycle. Remove any filters, but leave the strainer basket in place. Tap the "select" button three times until the red light is on (and stays on, not blinking). The cleaning cycle now begins. It should take between 45 minutes and an hour to complete. Don't be concerned about the 30-minute long pause during the cycle when nothing happens. This is intentional and part of the cycle.

After the cleaning cycle has completed, get rid of the vinegar. Rinse out the strainer basket and the coffee pot. Run a full pot of clean water thru a regular brew cycle (with the pot and basket in place, of course). Then, dump the water, rinse the pot and basket again, and run another full pot of clean water thru a regular brew cycle. Dump that water too. And, you're done!

Water won't flow thru to filter or pot. Don't know the exact model but it is a 12 cup self cleaning.


Self-cleaning is wishful thinking. Every three months or so, run a pint of vinegar through it, as if making coffee (no coffee!) then flush with two tanks of water.

I think there is a real problem with the whole cleaning system with the Mr. Coffee Pot. I have one and after making only a few pots of coffee, the light starts blinking. I have cleaned it over and over and still get the same alert. My son had the same problem you have with his, it wouldn't finish the cleaning cycle. He'd had it awhile and ended up tossing it because it was beyond the warranty and store told him too bad. I've had other Mr Coffee makers and like them, but they didn't have the irritating "clean" alert OR the obnoxious BEEPING to let you know it's done brewing. If I knew this was going to be an issue - I would never have bought it. Why do they have to screw around with a good thing - more buttons and thing cycles to cause problems.

I know this an old question, but I finally fixed mine. Hopefully this will help someone. I have a PSTX Mr. Coffee (10 cup) maker.

Allow me to provide some background first ...

I started a clean cycle, following the instructions in the booklet exactly. I used 4 cups of white vinegar and pressed the clean button. Easy, right? The reservoir emptied about 2/3, the clean light began blinking and an audible (steady) alarm sounded. I waited for 2 hours for that audible alarm to stop, but it never did. Finally, I unplugged the coffee maker, plugged it back in and tried again. Same results. By this time, I figured I had run enough vinegar through it to properly de-calcify the unit, so I repeated the "clean" steps numerous times with just plain water. Same results. I realized that I could still brew coffee; only thing is, the darned clean light would keep coming on when I pressed brew. Surely, I did something wrong or there would be an answer on the web. I searched many answers, but none fixed my problem. So I decided to call Mr. Coffee (US: 800.672.6333 or Canada: 800.667.8623). I navigated through the menu and found the troubleshooting section for cleaning. The automated voice said, "Place 6 cups of cleaner solution or white vinegar in the reservoir...."

Stop the presses! Did she just say 6 cups? The manual clearly states 4 cups. Also, that's what everyone else on the web is reporting.

So I tried it, and I only used water (since the pot was still relatively clean) - 6 cups of water - pressed the clean button. This is what you SHOULD expect:

1. Place 6 cups of cleaner solution or white vinegar in the reservoir
2. Press the "clean" button.
3. When approximately 2/3 of the solution has brewed through, it will [apparently] stop brewing - the "clean" light will begin blinking (but there should NOT be any sort of audible alarm) - let the maker sit; it's still working on the clean cycle.
4. The final 1/3 of the solution will brew through and the cleaning light will shut off.

This CONCLUDES the cleaning cycle.
Of course, you should just perform a few "regular brew" cycles with just plain water to clear out the vinegar (or cleaner solution) odor.

Bottom line: The manual screwed all of us! 6 cups, not 4!

Try it - Hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

The light is on to clean it and I do not have an owner's manual. Can you please explain? How do I get the light to stop blinking?


Most coffee makers are cleaned by filling the reservoir with undiluted white vinegar (3 cups). (Do not add coffee.) Remove the water filtration disk if you use it before starting. Then start the brew cycle as if making a cup of coffee (including putting a paper filter or the permanent filter in the filter basket and close the lid). Put a decanter on the warming plate. After brewing, turn off the coffee maker and let stand for 30 minutes. Run another cup of vinegar through the coffee maker. Take the decanter filled with vinegar and discard the liquid (pour down the sink drain). Rinse the decanter. Fill the reservoir with clean water and put in a new paper filter (or clean the permanent filter and put it back). Again do not add coffee. Run a brew cycle to rinse the unit. Discard the water that is in the decanter after the brew cycle. Do a second clean water only brew cycle (with new empty paper filter or permanent filter after cleaning again). However, if you notice an odd taste, repeat the rinse cycle.

You can alternatively use the Mr. Coffee Coffee Maker Cleaner (mix as directed on that package). In either case, this removes mineral deposits (calcium from hard water). For soft water, the cleaning should be done every 80 brew cycles. If you have hard water, do this every 40 cycles.

The manual is available from www.mrcoffee.com/Product.aspx?pid=121 , if I have the correct product version. For some reason this site isn't coming up for me today. Check the manual to find out if there is any specific details for cleaning that aren't shared with other Mr. Coffee products.

MR COFFEE FTX49. Brewing starts, then stops


Mine just started to do the exact same thing. So I decided to clean it using the "Clean" program and just water. I put the brewer through the cleaning program 3 times - each time it would brew water from 12 cups to 8 cups, I'd tap the brewer on the countertop, it would brew from 8 cups to 4 cups, tap it again, and it would brew the remaining cups. So, I called the Mr. Coffee help line (800-672-6333). The most-likely problem is that the hose is no longer attached in the water reservoir. The help line suggested that I take it in to a service center. I live in Urbana, IL and the closest service center is in Oak Lawn, IL - 2 hours away from me!!
Here is my solution:
1) Buy another coffee brewer.
or
2) Smash your current Mr. Coffee brewer into a million pieces (this relieves stress) and go buy another coffee brewer (probably stay away from Mr. Coffee products).

Cleaning light will not quit blinking after cleaning


The same thing happened to our Mr. Coffee this week! I followed the instructions about running vinegar through, then rinsing several times with water. However, the light would not stop blinking. We did by-pass the light by setting the timer for delayed brewing and it worked. However, that blinking light came on again. Then, my husband tired the vinegar wash again but instead of doing it one time, he ran the same vinegar through 6 times until the light went out! Then he proceeded with the water rinse. Our Mr. Coffee is working again!
