It is a Front Load Stapler. Press the button at the back hinge end and the magazine ejects from the front.

Looking at the image, I would guess that there are screws under the feet.

Sometimes the rectangular insert where the staples sit on, gets dislodged. On the underside of channel insert is a spring and when correctly seated is in between the tabs of the bottom piece. If the insert isn't in between the tabs, it sits too high and makes it difficult to open and close the staple tray. The staples will jam.

Sadly, the solution to this problem is very simply, and stated on the instructions for the stapler, which I ignored myself until I had bought my third one and continued to have the jamming problem. The solution is you HAVE to use the Optima staples they sell. Look for them in the silver metal box, and they are labeled Optima. Once I did that, all three of the staplers worked without a hitch, and I love them. Good luck!

Did you use Optima brand staples? If not, the stapler will not work correctly. You must use their brand of staples or it will continue jamming, and giving you problems. The staples typically found right next to the Optima staplers in the office supply stores. They come in a rectangular metal box and are labeled Optima staples.

1. • 1 Remove the follow block at the back of the stapler by pushing the mechanism in, lifting the block up over the holding hooks and sliding it out from the stapler. The follow block is the spring-loaded mechanism that holds the staples in place within the stapler.
     
   • 2 Load the heavy-duty staples into the staple tray.
     
   • 3 Replace the follow block by inserting it back into the stapler and locking it into place over the holding hooks.

You need to open the stapler from the back. Push the black piece at the back of the stapler in, then pull it up and out. Remove the jammed staples, and reinstall. Make sure you use the correct staple . It appears to be: SWINGLINE 35550 HIGH CAPACITY STAPLES, 3/8"

Push the black half-oval button at the hinge to release the staple cartridge. Extend the staple cartridge from front of the stapler, add staples, push back in.
