your problem is the armature in the motor housing is shorted or grounding out...it is time to retire it.

SOURCE: rechargeable battery does not recharge

They are nickel cadminum batteries, and are replaceable, you may have to order from a repair shop, or go thehooverstore.com. Once you have the battery pack out, maybe you can find them like at Radio Shack or other places that sell these type packs,

SOURCE: swivel sweeper battery is not charging

the problem is not repeat not with the batteries. i bought another sweeper from a local department store. when i got it home i put the new battery in the old sweeper, and it ran for about a minute. then i put the old battery in the new machine and it ran fine. so the problem is not the battery but somewhere betwee the battery pack and the brushes.

SOURCE: My Hoover Linx is not

I think you have 2 problems:
1. The LiNX gets clogged somethings in the head unit and the clog is difficult to see. Remove the head (via the push button). and clean out the clog. I do this with a lenngth of coat hanger wire that I bent a small hock on to the end.
2. If the roller stops turning it can be caused by one of the power wires to the moter getting severed in the swivel connection in the head unit. This has happened to us twice. I took the unit apart (a pain) and was able to fix by soldering and taping wires. However, Hoovers design is not great in getting power to the motor and this may recur. I love these vacuums and I hope they engineer a more robust wie feeding solution.

please go to web page from Hoover and see the videos respectively from your model, etc.

However this can be a problem:There could be a clog in the hose or the bag/tank may be full and need to be replaced or emptied. Also, check the belt to see if it is worn or broken, if it's defective replace it.7_28_2012_10_15_39_am.jpg

When I put the battery on the charger the light on the charger stays on for little awhile the it starts to blink, but when I try to use the battery it is not charged. So I am not sure if I need a new

Hi there! It sounds like you have our Linx stick vacuum or hand vacuum model. Plug only the charger into an outlet, the blue light on the charger should flash once. If the light on the charger flashes once then the charger is fine. Try resetting the battery by following these quick steps below.

1. Remove the battery from charger or cleaner
2. Unplug the charger
3. Insert the battery into the vacuum and turn the unit on for 30 seconds (even if it has no power)
4. Remove the battery
5. Plug the charger into an outlet, make sure the light on charger blinks blue once.
6. Insert battery into charger

The light should be a solid blue, indicating the battery reset worked. If so, allow the battery to charge for 3-4 hours, completely deplete battery on your next use and re-charge. If the light on the charger is still blinking, your battery will need to be replaced. I have included a link where you may go to purchase a replacement battery if needed. Hope this helps!

Why doesn't my battery charge? Why doesn't the charger's light come on?

Hi Suzanne! Follow these steps to check that your charger and battery are working properly.

1. Unplug the charger for at least 30 seconds.
2. Plug the charger back in. The blue light on the charger should flash once.

If the blue light flashes once this is an indication that the charger is still functioning properly. If the blue light does not flash, the charger will need to be replaced. Follow this link to order a replacement charger. LiNX Battery Charger

3. Place the battery in the vacuum and turn it on for 30 seconds. (even if it does not turn on or powers off)
4. Turn the vacuum off.
5. Remove the battery and place it in the charger.

If the light on the charger is solid blue this is an indication that the battery has been reset. Allow 3-4 hours for the battery to fully charge. The blue light will start to blink slowly to indicate the battery is fully charged.

If the light on the charger is flashing blue or there is no light at all this can mean that your battery needs to be replaced. Follow the link to order a replacement battery. LiNX Lithium Ion Battery

Hope this helps!

How old is your battery? and did you keep it on charge when it was not in use?
Most rechargeable batteries require a spindown, where as you completely discharge the battery before recharging it again.
I know you aren't wanting to hear this but in all probability that battery is spent and will need to be reconditioned at a battery place, however, it will cost almost as much as a new one it would be your call.
if you have a ohm/volt meter it might be possible to look at the charger and get a volt/amp reading and then test it see if it is putting out the proper voltage it could be putting out a trickle charge and it would take forever to charge it.
there is one other situation to look at and if the beater brush or motor is causing a resistance it will pull a battery down quick.
I do not own this vaccum so I can only guess as to the possibilities.

more than likely you'll have to order a new handle. Those machines are built in pieces so you just cant replace switch, motor, etc....

Westinghouse Unplugged Vacuum Turns off after 5 Seconds.

If both batteries are behaving the same way then this is probably a charger problem. When you insert the battery pack into the charger does the 'charging' light blink for 30 minutes (fast charge) then go steady? I noticed that one of my batteries was causing the light to come on steady immediately I inserted it into the charger. When I tried to use the battery pack I got the same problem everyone else is seeing, i.e. vacuum cleaner shuts off in less than a minute, so I conclude that when the charging light is on steady then the battery is not being charged.

If the charging light does not blink when you insert the battery (i.e. comes on steady or not at all), try removing the battery and re-inserting it into the charger.

Try a conditioning cycle on your battery packs. To do this:
* Insert the battery pack into the charger
* Before the charging light lights press the 'condition' button located just above the charging light.
* The 'conditioning' light should blink. This is a light which does not normally illuminate, and it is located below the condition button and above the charging light. The charger fan will run quieter in this mode.
* Leave the battery pack in the charger for 24 hours while this cycle is taking place.

I'm not a service technician so perhaps someone else might like to post other solutions or corrections to this one.
