Question about MarWare UpSurge Mini Speakers

Only works when connected to my computer

I can't get it to work except when connected to hard drive no matter how long I leave it there to charge. I bought it to use with my Kindle Fire HD.

How do I fix a problem were a tower computer won't see the slave hard drive.

It sounds like both drives are trying to be the master on the cable. Have you tried setting both drives jumpers to the CABLE SELECT setting. This allows the BIOS to individually identify them and you specify in the BIOS which is the primary boot drive.

Use an AC Usb charger.

a new computer? how old is the computer your using and how old is the external hard drive? chances are either the computers pulling every gram of memory out in an attempt to search the hard drive for what you want leaving nothing for you to do other work with. might be upgrade time if its getting on in age.

if the hard drives ageing your going to be better off turning your external drive back into an internal one if you have a tower. you should have room to mount at least 2 drives into the tower. just buy a new hard drive connector and plug it up. the older USB drives work a good bit faster directly connected to the system.

Turned computer on and monitor instantly goes to sleep,also cant turn off the computer using button.have to use switch on power supply

Try this, unplug everything from the other board except the main hard drive, power connections, and monitor. if it does not come up, remove ram cards, leaving one stick. try again, if it is still bad swap ram sticks. If after all of this it still does not work you have a bad motherboard or processor

After connecting usbs, maxtor drive does not show up on pc screen. Therefore cannot see any files at all !!!! declan

Make sure you are connecting to a usb port directly on your pc and not through a usb hub. If that does not work try another usb port on the back of your pc. Also make sure the power supply to the hard drive is working. If that fails try looking for the drive in "My Computer or Computer" and if not there check in "disk management". Also try disconnecting all other usb devices except your keyboard and mouse reboot and then try connecting the maxtor drive.
Thanks for using FixYa

No matter how long I leave my computer plugged in, the battery won't charge more than 80%.

OK, I had the same problem as you have, except the battery wouldn't charge beyond 0%.

Sounds like you need to buy a new battery for the netbook.

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Laptop won't boot up properly

Connect your computers to an external monitor and press the appropriate F key combination (Shift + F7) to switch video output to the monitor. If you see an image on your monitor you have a bad LCD screen or back light inverter. If not you need a new motherboard. Guy that gets ticks, you need a new motherboard anyway.
