If you have a DVI-D connector on your PC and wish to use a VGA monitor you will need to get a digital to analog DVI-D to VGA video signal converter. I would recommend checking ( Part nos SCA-DVI-ANA or SCA-DVI-ANA-UN).

Theoretically yes, one can be DVI-D. Look at the adapters themselves, make sure they have the correct pin configuration for both DVI-I and or DVI-D. They may be the source of your troubles.

Using with a laptop

Connection the monitor depends on the connections you have out of your Toshiba laptop.

The monitor has both VGA and DVI.

If the Toshiba has a VGA out, all you need is a VGA cable available online, computer or electronics store.

If the Toshiba has an HDMI out, you can connect it to the DVI on the monitor with an HDMI cable and an HDMI to DVI Adapter.

You can also use USB out with either a VGA converter or a DVI converter (go with DVI for the better picture). Converters can be found online at Amazon, you may also need a standard male to male DVI cable to use with the converter.

How do i connect the lcd to my computer

The monitor appears to be DVI capable, (White connector with a grid pattern). You will need to connect the monitor to the computer using a DVI cable (White connector with grid pattern and plus sign shape on one side). If your computer is not capable of connecting to a DVI monitor check to see if the monitor has a Blue VGA (Blue Zig Zag Openings) and connect it with a VGA cable. If your monitor only has the white DVI connector and your computer only has a Blue VGA connector you will need to go to the store (Best Buy, Walmart, Etc) to buy a small adapter that will convert DVI to VGA. If you ask someone for a DVI to VGA adapter they will know what you are talking about. I hope this helps.

DVI ==> Digital Video Input
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs,
and your PC's video-card has both DVI and VGA outputs,
then buy a DVI-to-DVI cable, and use it, for a better picture.
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs,
and your PC's video-card only has VGA output,
then use a VGA-to-VGA cable.
Or, purchase a video-card with DVI output,
to replace the video-card with VGA output,
and then use a DVI-to-DVI cable.

Hi,

I believe you are referring to a DVi connector. We have different types of connectors but none of them is DFi. We have VGA, HDMI, SATA, and DVi connectors. Here's a cheklist of what you need to do:
  1. Check the connector of the computer whether you have VGA, HDMI, SATA, or DVi
  2. Check the connector of the monitor whether you have VGA, HDMI, SATA, or DVi
  3. Now that you know the type of connectors you have for your system, you know what cable to buy.
It does not really matter if your computer and monitor have different connectors. We can purchase cables with VGA - VGA, HDMI - HDMI, DVi - DVi, VGA - HDMI, VGA - DVi, HDMI - DVi. So, don't worry and thank you for choosing FixYa!

I want to connect a HP w2207 monitor to a HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC. What is the best way to do this?

Your HP w2207 monitor has support for both VGA and DVI inputs. This therefore means that you can connect your HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC via either of these two connectors.

VGA is the blue coloured port on the rear of your monitor.
DVI is the white coloured rectangular port located on the rear of your monitor.

DVI is the better connection of the two as it is a digital connection, so use this one if you can, alternatively you can use the blue coloured VGA cable to connect your monitor to your computer.

It all depends on which output, either DVI or VGA is found on your Computer. Remember VGA is the Blue coloured port and DVI is the blue coloured port.

All the best!

Definitely!
As long as it's the same connection (VGA or DVI) in both the monitor and the computer itself - any monitor will do the job!
If the monitor has a DVI connector but the computer has a VGA connector only, a DVI-to-VGA adapter is required.

You need a DVI-to-VGA converter if you only have VGA input to your monitor. If your monitor accepts DVI connections then you can connect the DVI out from STB to your monitor.

DVI input on monitor not working

Contacted viewsonic about this issue- they suggested- have both dvi and vga hooked up to same machine. start with poweroff on both. power on monitor, then power on computer. when you see display coming from the vga, power off pc, then disconnect vga cable, turn off power to monitor, disconnect power cord from monitor for 5 + seconds, reconnect power cord, power on monitor, then power on pc.
If this doesn't work to get the dvi working, (as happened to us) we returned our monitor for a replacement, since it was still under warranty.
