Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Hi, I have an LG side by side fridge/freezer model no: GR-B206GTQA that I have recently purchased second hand. When I plug the unit in it runs ok for approximately 10 minutes and then the condenser fan stops and then an error code ER CF is shown on the display. The codes indicates a problem with the fan. I have cleaned the condenser fan and coils etc as this area was thick with dust and fluff and I have replaced the fan motor with a new one which is the correct motor for this model but nothing has changed. When plugged in the compressor runs fine (no clicking) the coils heat up and the fridge/freezer cools but the fan will only run for approximately 10 mins. When the fan stops (this is when the error ER CF appears) the compressor continues to run and I have noticed that the edge of the divide between the fridge and freezer section gets hot. I had also noticed that the bottom of the evaporator cover inside the freezer looked a little warped/melted, I removed the cover to find that some of the fins on the evaporator had been damaged/bent, I have done my best to separate and straighten the fins so although these are now not touching each other they still out of shape. Could this damage in any way be associated with the fan not working as it should? I should also mention that if I turn off the fridge and leave it for only several minutes the fan doesn't come on at all but if the fridge is left unplugged for several hours the fan will run but only for approximately 10 minutes before stopping and the error message is displayed. I cannot find a suitable solution online anywhere and would be very grateful to anyone who can help me. I can attach a video or photos is this would help.

where are the so called experts to help this guy? Every answer I've read is vague..incomplete.. not interested! I would think that the condenser fan is controlled through the main board usually on top of the unit. I was looking for some answers too... but I don't think I'll be getting any here.

You probably need to replace the fan blade or housing. They are available online and are not too much more of a job than the fan motor was. It was likely not the fan motor giving you the problem since they are rather strong.

Hi. Fred, thanks for your response. The fan blade & housing look good. Could either of these still be the problem regardless. Excuse my ignorance as I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area. Thanks again, Lee.

If the blade spins freely without hitting the shroud walls you are probably OK unless it hits when spinning rapidly with power applied. If you can put power to it while watching that should be the best test.

SOURCE: Subzero 611 freezer not cooling

Could be but before that check if settings are working. Set the freezer settings to coolest and see if cools. If ok, set to desired temp.

LG GR-B206GTQA Fridge Freezer ER CF Error Code

The fan is almost certainly run by a sensor in the condenser. If it doesn't get hot enough, the fan doesn't run. Sounds like short of gas. Try wiring the fan to the compressor live and see if it runs all the time then.

I bought a LG GR-349SQFrefr/freezer second hand yesterday for my doughter. Before buing it they tried it, and the freezer got cold OK. After installing it it seems that the freezer is working OK, but the...

If you transported it on its side or carried it on its side for a while and did not allow about six hours standing time before switching it on, you may have burned out the motor because the oil/gas mixture will have been dispersed into the system and needs time to drain back into the compressor. In this case there is nothing to do but call in a repairman and possibly replace the compressor..

Lg frost free fridge freezer gr-399sq

on the back wall inside the freezer unscrew the white panel and then remove the panel behind this . you should now see a tray that runs the width of the freezer with a driphole on the left-hand side which will probably be frozen with ice , chip away whatever is possible and then put boiling water on the driphole and once this is clear you should find the problem sorted , 1 other option is to turn the fridge/freezer off for several days and this will allow the ice build-up to thaw thus resolving the problem

Brand new refrigerator not cooling

ok what he was trying to say is that the freezer does all the cooling for both sides as nothing in the fride side cools and in order for the fridge to reach its proper temp the freezer should run any where between -0 to-10 then the fan in the freezer draw-es air from the fridge and cools it and circulates to the fridge now i need to know a few things is the compressor running is the freezer fan running do you see any frost on the back wall of the freezer section is the fan running in the back that's near the compressor to cool the condenser coils then i can better advise pleas hold my rating till we are done where did you purchase the unit
