This could be a worn out loader. I've had bad luck with push in to load decks since I push them in too hard and wear them out, I migrated to tray loaders for this reason (I have a JA50ES and a JA20ES) which like other high end MD decks have a try which opens up to accept the disc.

The mehanisms wear out and are not worth fixing. I paid a pro $350 to fix a JA3ES a few years back and it only worked for a short time. I'd simply try to find a replacement deck rather than spend too much time or trouble on it. The 510 and 520 are great decks but getting very long in the tooth like me...

SOURCE: Spontaneous MD erasure

Well, depending how the content was recorded, there may be a slim chance to recover the audio. To me it looks like TOC was not written successfully, effectively deleting the TOC.
You can try TOC cloning with this 'blank' MD using another MD player, but your track markers will be lost during the cloning. If it works, at best you will end up with ONE long track. Then you can edit and reset your track markers.

It may be also be a good idea, to try the JE440 carefully with junk content to make sure it still works ok when writing TOC. You may have an intermittent problem too. I'd be very careful editing MD in this unit until it has been confirmed the TOC writing works ok. You may want to check the over-write head assembly and the cable that connects it. Sometimes these cables develop hairline cracks causing intermittend write action.

Check out www.minidisc.org forum for TOC cloning.

Good luck recovering your audio.

SOURCE: stuck disc

The carriage assemblies for these units are known to break. Please DO NOT attempt to remove the disk. Bring this to an authorized Sony service center. They should be able to give you a fixed price repair quote. This is the only way to save the disc and prevent further damage to the assembly. The replacement assemblies are a bit better than the originals so you shoudn't have this problem again.

I have repaired a number of these with much success. Care must be taken so that the disc heads are not damaged.

Keep us posted.

SOURCE: MDS-JE480 MiniDisc Deck

Hello,
The problem with the TOC reading and then appearing C13 is a problem with bad electrical contacts.
Remove the connection to the mains outlet, remove the top cover (5screws) and the remove the 2 paper flatcables that connect the main PCB and the disk unit on both sides. Plug them back in and possible your problem is solved.
A better solution is, of coarse, to replace both cables by new ones, as the quality is rather bad, and once disconnected, they should be replaced.
Good luck!!!

SOURCE: Sony minidisc MDS-JE320 Clicking problem

Hi,
I had the very same problem with my MDS-JE510 and I found out that it has something to do with a sliding plate that comes forward and stops too far. It is a metal pin that could be bend (very, very little) to the frontside of the recorder. I put a paper between the pin and the stopplate and the problem was really gone. Now I bend the pin so it stops earlier and voila, everything works super fine. I can send a picture of the pin, I made. It's n the leftside of the disc-unit. The only thing you have to do is open the upper cover (5 screws). Tell me if you would like to send me the picture OK? Ronnie Janssen.

SOURCE: my sony mds-303 is ejecting new disc and saying disc error

I had the same problem. Take the top off and wind the loading wheel until the mechanism engages and loads - but with no disc in place. Then unplug the power and look through the top. You will see the lens. Clean with rubbing alcohol and a q tipi and dry with a clean q tip. Try playing a disc

My Sony MDX-D40 mini disc section won't eject

Most likely it is caused by the loading belt getting old and stretching until it no longer moves the mechanism to eject the minidisc.
Try looking on Ebay or similar for a replacement belt.

My ejected button doent work the diaply says disc loading

I am sorry to say that probably your loader the mechanical mechanism is damaged so the MD is not getting into the right place. I sadly paid $350 to Pro Digital in Philadelphia to fix a high end Sony MD Deck only to have the same problem again in a few months and then sell the unit for parts.

If your deck won't load a disc from a tray loading model like the legenday Sony JA50ES or JA20ES it is a simple raplacemnt of a over stretched drive loading belt. But on the push to load models it is a big problem which is proibably not cost effective to fix as it was in my case. There are many minidisc decks on ebay of all brands, they are alive and well there along with discs and accessories for most machines.

A note on replacement bands for Sony Trays, to the best of my knowledge they are no longer made by Sony or avaiable in North America, but they are available from several suppliers in Germany. So if you are searching for a MDS tray loding belt check to set your search for an international search on eBay and they will turn up. I replaced the drive belts on both of my high end Sony MD Decks last year this way.

UPON EJECTING THE DISC FROM MY MDS-JE440 IT IS WIPING ALL DATA AND BLANKING OUT THE DISC COMPLETELY ! IT HAS ONLY STARTED DOINING THIS IN THE LAST DAY OR TWO AND I'VE LOST MUSIC OFF 6 DISCS COMPLETELY, SO...

I think your recording head failed, you should stop using the deck and get a similar used one which works, repairs are usualy not cost effective.
Prodigital in Philadelphia does repairs, I paid about $250 for a replacement loader unit installed + shipping.

Hi have an mds-je500 minidisk player that stopped accepting disks, worked perfect one minute, says load error next each time i try to load, then says eject even though disk doesn't go all the way in....

The small limit switch for the disc in position typically goes bad on about 40% of all Sony Minidisc recorders. It is a $5 part, but will probably cost you $35 to get it installed.

MDS-JE470 mini-disc capstan motor will not rotate disc and ejects

I have not had your problem myself, however, I am pretty sure the disc/s you are trying to play are not in the same readable format your MD player is, hence, the ejecting. I think you might have to either connect your player to a computer and re-initialise the system format/s and/or you may just have to (annoyingly) replace all of the MiniDiscs you have - which is not the best/rewarding way to go... quite irritating actually !!
Good luck to you though !!

MDS-E10 Problems loading and ejecting discs

Hi, its probably way too late to give this solution but there is a ribbon cable that runs from the main board onto the display board that causes this problem. Its very accessable from the top and all you have to do is pull it out clean the contacts and re-seat it. This will resolve all sorts of communications issues with the display and buttons.
