Perhaps in disassembly pressure on the LCD cracked the crystal display with will cause a rich black screen. If the camera has both internal and LCD displays, perhaps the switch is set to the eyepiece? My lumix will shut off the LCD and turn on the eyepiece to save battery. Check wires to that switch.
Focusers can be replaced and or upgraded-- you disassembled the focuser-- you will need to reassemble it properly -- you might have also messed up the screw threads in the holes and may need to try using a slightly larger size screws. Your local hardware store will have them.
I think you can take it to anyone that deals with video tape even some camera shops will splice video tapes back together. You could even do it your self by carefully disassembling the case of the video tape and taping the two broken ends back together with scotch tape if the two ends are ragged you should cut a small amount off to square the ends up and make sure you apply the scotch tape to the side of the video tape that doesn't contact the head of the video player. And remove all the slack before re-assembling. If you are afraid you might mess the tape up try dis-assembling one that doesn't have any video on it for practice to see if you can do this and you can use the one you dis-assemble as a guide.
The trick is remembering how you dis-assembled so you can re-assemble.
Purchase or borrow another camera and photograph each step.
Buy a plastic tray with little compartments in and start at 1 end and then work back when assembling.
