Cant access files...

Ok, so after hours and days i was finally able to install another install of win. xp on my computer after it crashing down. i kept getting the hal.dll missing/corrupt. nothing worked. finally was able to install another win. xp and i was supposedly not going to lose any of my old data because i wasnt writing over it. now when i go to my old folder it says i'm unable to access the folder. the access to my folder is denied. why? and how can i get into it?

Jun 20, 2009- i tried that, but i dont get the run as administrator option when right clicking. also shouldnt the comp. already know i'm the administrator, if i'm the only user on this comp. xp?Jun 20, 2009- i right click on the folder, properties, and nothing that says security comes up on there. i'm already the only user, and i checked and i'm the computer administrator. i went to the control panel and folders file, but nothing about permissions on there. when i right clicked and went to properties, i get 3 tabs. general, sharing, and customize. nothing under there with security or administrative or permission options.

Jun 20, 2009- it says unable to log you on because of an acct. restriction. lolJun 20, 2009- ok read somewhere that if i have xp home, i can only access administrator through safe mode. i did, and voila, administrator in. bad thing. i go to my folder, still says cant access. however, i right clicked, properties, and finally saw security tab. went to security, and where it says all the permissions, allow or deny, the bottom one says special permissions, and it's unchecked. but i cant check it. i have to go to advance option. i dont know where to go from there. any thougths?

In safe mode set the owner to be you and make sure you have rights to open it in the (security tab) Do not checkspecial permissions then restart. if you still can not open it let me know. you may want to take the drive to a friend to have them copy the files with vista and then but them in a different place on the drive. you can get a hdd to usb adapter for under 20$

Boot up into safe mode, logging in as the Administrator, not your account.

Go into the security settings for the folder and change the permissions. The easiest thing would be to give Everyone full access. Don't forget to promulgate the permissions to the directory tree as well.

Good luck

Omnitech not find exe file

Dear Gxp_mc16,

Can you open your external and see all files? If you can open it and can access any other files inside the external drive then the problem will have more chances to resolve. For the first step you might need to try this software: https://www.findandmount.com/ download it and install it on your computer and follow the steps. If the problem is not too serious the software will solve it.

My case two weeks ago with Canvio 3.0 500GB was even more difficult. I could not see and access my external after my computer crashed and the external attached to it. My Windows OS computer always ask me to "reformat" the external drive. I tried it with other computers all with WIN 7 OS, same problem. My external need to be reformat. It made me crazy because there are too many important files in it. Then I met this software http://www.easeus.com/ . I Install the software and I scan the external for the whole night (about 8 hours). Luckily, all my files could be recovered and accessed although it is separated. Then I copied all important files into my internal drive. Then I reformatted the Canvio. Until now I am still using it without any problem.

Cant access folder...help me please!

Well it could be a permission issue. Did you do all your updates once you reinstalled your xp copy? Try right clicking on the folder, and select run as administrator. Set your permissions to allow all. The click apply and ok then close the window and navigate away from your folder so it resets. Then try accessing the folder again. Let me know if this works for you.

How to upgrade win 95 to winxp without removing files installed

A computer running Windows 95 WILL NOT RUN Windows XP in most cases. Post all of your hardware details and we can explore that further.

Most programs that run on Windows 95 WILL NOT RUN under Windows XP easily. There are some compatibility things you can try for each one, but most simply will crash, and some will seem to work for a while then crash at inopportune moments.

What you should do is buy an newer computer with Windows XP, remove your current hard drive, and put your current hard drive as a second drive in the new computer. You will have access to your documents, but your programs will not run.

Installing win xp from external hard drive

Umm...is your laptop crashed??? Usually ntlldr issues ****. try to delete the former installation so a new ntldr file can be installed so as to not conflict with the damaged ntldr file that is on the pc blocking the install. It sounds like your setup is ok...at the very least get another xp cd to make sure the disk is not damaged that you are loading windows from.
