You should get the name of the contractor and any other information on them you can get. Then call your local phone company and let them know what has happened, that way they will repair the line and bill the contractor for the repair's..

WHEN I CALL MY HOUSE PHONE IT DOES RING BUT YOU CANT HEAR ANYTHING AND THERE IS NO DIAL TONE IN IT

you have a line fault. Phone your telecoms company. Often they can fix it at the exchange or on a pole, or the junction box outside your house.

When is my internet explorer coming on line again.i reported the fault two days ago.engineer came out and said line ok.

It will never come back unless you reinstall Windows completely - it has been corrupted. Copy all your files to make sure they aren't lost then use the recovery disks that came with your pc.

My phone rings once but cut off. Is this a line

If when you plug into the test socket the line still fails then it is an external fault. BT are responsible for all wiring going back to the exchange from the back of the master socket - the repair should be free.

Please can you check my line as i have vere bad crackling and can not here people talking my number is 01494817996

You can check the line yourself over the internet by visiting the following website:

http://www.bt.com/faults

However I can see that a fault has already been logged against this number.

Adsl connection

have the phone company check the line for "ring and tip" make sure they are the same as before, I suspect that the wire is reversed. the telephone don't care how the wire is run.

Why would you doubt that it is fried? It kills the line when you plug it in, so would shorting the wires together. Get a new one. It's toast!

Cannot send & receive fax messages

Your telephone line may have degraded.. It's quite common really, where moisture gets into the telecom cables.. Have you had a lot of rain lately? The telecom company can do a line test from the telephone exchange, if you request it.. But not always easy to arrange :-) - If you have the test done, you might have to remove all other extension lines off your main incoming line just for the test period.. Anyway, one test you can do yourself is to remove all other extensions off the line & move your fax machine to the main socket & plug it in there.. It might prove whether another telephone is causing a load problem.. Also, have you noticed a difference in the quality of voice over your telephone/s lately? Might be an electrical/electronic fault in one of the phones.. Have you purchased or installed any new phones or lines or modems lately? Maybe move the fax to the neighbors or a friends place, just for testing.. This will prove if it's the device or the line. Rgds,
