Sorry to be a pest but how can I get on the internet? The "Privacy Center" screen will not close? Thanks

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

Okay I tried to do the $59 purchase but I'm unable to get on the internet...Also how can I reboot my system without having to put in the administrator password (in Windows Vista)? I have forgotten it. I tried putting the reboot cd's but the computer doesn't read them.

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

Ok I disabled all the startup programs using the MSCONFIG...but it rebooted and is still showing the same "Privacy Center" screen. What should I do now?

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

Ok I'm returning to MSCONFIG and checking every box...

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

ok now I'm in thru safe mode with networking and the Privacy screen is still on...

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

I am unable to get online with the computer I'm trying to fix, but I have another computer...

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

I downloaded it and put the flash drive in the laptop but it won't open anything up...it's weird

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

okay so browse the registry editor list to find each one then delete it correct?

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

What if they are not found....?

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

ok I deleted the ones I could find what do I do now?

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

can I restart my computer because its on the black screen?

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

it doesn't bring up anything on the screen it's just a black screen.

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

THe privacy center screen came up again...I guess I'm not going to be able to get rid of it...is there any way to surpass the administrator password?

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

Yes i am trying the system restore and I am using administrator as a username put I don't know the password...any ideas how to bypass this?

  • annabelduran Jun 20, 2009

I know I wish I knew what I was doing wrong but thank you for your time and advice....

Were you able to solve the problem with the screen coming up?

  • Ben Wabnick
    Ben Wabnick May 11, 2010

Turn on your laptop and keep pressing F8 and it will bring you to a boot menu. Choose safe mode and let it boot up into safe mode. The privacy screen should not come up. Go thru the steps i mentioned to you about disabled the startup programs and then let the machine reboot into windows normally and see if the screen goes away.

  • Ben Wabnick
    Ben Wabnick May 11, 2010

click on the vista logo in the bottom left hand corner and then in the empty search box type in MSCONFIG and press enter. When the box comes up click on the startup tab and then everything that you see in there is everything that loads up when you boot up into windows. Click on the disable all button and then apply, then okay and then let the system reboot and see if the box comes back up. Let me know how it goes.

Yep sounds like a virus. What you need to do is go to

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

and download malwarebytes (click on the green arror and save to desktop). Restart your computer and push F8 repeatedly when it turns back on. A black screen will pop up, using the arror keys go to safe mode and click ok. Once its all booted up, go back to the malwarebytes file and install it, run a full sca (about an hour or so) then repair all findings.
Hopefully you'll be good to go. If you need anything else let me know.

Ok you should still e able to do everything I posted. That version of malwarebytes is compatible in vista as well, you should be good to

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

you should be able to access some sort of internet browser through the start button. If you click on the window, will it stay, It will probably take you to a site asking for $59 to fix your pc. just ignore all that and download the malwarebytes. If you still can't, try to reboot in safe mode Pressing F8 repeatedly at startup) and try safe mode with networking to get online. That privacy junk won't popup in safe mode.

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

when you reboot, start pressing the F8 button as soon as the computer turns off. This will eventualy take you to a screen where you can choose to go into safe mode. Did you uncheck anything in MSCONFIG?

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

not quite sure which person yo are following. what you need to do for now is go back into msconfig and check everybox. That will not disable the problem because it has rootkits that are difficult to ypass. You said you cannot get online? Is that starting with this "Privacy" problem. You need to get in to safe mode with networking and we'll start from there. Safe mode will disable this malware and let you concentrate on other things.

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

wow that's weird, black screen and safe mode written in coeners? can you get online to download that program or do you have another computer?

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

ok use the other computer and go to that link, save the file to a flash disk cd or something you can use in the other computer, then run it on the other computer, install and scan

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

OK let's try the hard way. Press ctrl alt delete to open task manager, click on processes. Find these following processes, right click on them and end process. They may still pop up.

    tapinstall.exe

    openvpn.exe

    agent.exe

    pc.exe

    uninstall.exe

    protect[1].exe

Step 2 click start=> run=> type in regedit hit enter

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

In the registry find these following items and delete them. If you are unsure how to do this let me know. Make sure they are exactly the same as what you are looking a

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D032570A-5F63-4812-A094-87D007C23012}

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\spbho.TIEBHO

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\

    Browser Helper Objects\{D032570A-5F63-4812-A094-87D007C23012}

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Privacy center

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “agent.exe”

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run agent.exe

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

These are sites that you can block in your internet security if you have one. All this will be cleaned up and 100% taken care of when you run malwarebytes, but all this may halp you get control back so you can do that

    block following sites

    privacy-centr.org

    privacy-ceter.org

    privacy-centar.org

    privacy-center.org

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

ok, that's to be expected. end those processes that I listed and the registry entries then try again.

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

that is correct, the entries I have in the list are like addresses, find the first part first, then second and so on. You may need to kill the processes again after doing the registry.

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

you could not find any? if missing a couple don't worry delete what you can

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

go back and end those processes again then try to install that program off your flash drive and run it. Let me know if you get it installed

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

    nope, not yet

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

ok try to reboot normally and see what happens

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

have you tried the system restore?
are you using administrator as a username

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

I wish I knew where you were going wrong, if you could just get that program on there you'd be good to go

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

your password is administrator. can't remember if the first a is a or A. if you get in there and no popup, get that program in there. If you can't, go to your other account, press ctrl, alt, delete and in that window log off then log on as a guest

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

then log on as guest. at sign in, press ctrl, alt, delete twice, then type in guest with no password. see where that puts ya

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

lol i hope it works too, I hate when I can't get it. I just took that off my friends pc, it wasn't this hard.

  • seth veloso Jun 20, 2009

Virus! You need to scan your drive for viruses. Since it will not boot, you must pull the drive from the laptop and connect it to another computer using a USB cable that you can purchase from tigerdirect.com. After you connect the laptop drive to another computer, scan the laptop drive for viruses.

It sounds like you are having a backlight problem with your computer. The backlight is the part of the LCD assembly that lights up behind the LCD and shines through.
