Question about Jenn-Air 30 in. CCG2423 Gas Cooktop

Flames too high Jenn-air CCG2423

Jenn-Air 30 inch CCG2423
I purchased this cook top as a floor model that had been sitting on a back shelf for several years. It was unused, but an old model. It was installed by the man who put in my new hot water heater.

My problem - I took the knobs off so my elderly mother could not turn the burners on. If I put one know back on to use one burner, flames shoot out of the holes where the other knobs would be. It's not a problem if I put all the knobs on to use one burner, but it bothers me to know that gas is being supplied all through the cooktop.

Second, when I turn the burner on, I must go past the "high" setting to get to a lower setting. The flames shoot out so far that they are close enough to the knob to make it hard to turn in down to low, or to turn it off again, as turning it off means I have to go past "high" again.

Is this a setting that I can correct myself? Do I need to have a service technician come? Or, should I cut my loses and buy a new cooktop with a warranty and not get an old floor model?

Thanks for your help.

Definitely cut your loses and get a cooktop with a warranty. That unit sat on the back shelf for a reason.......it didn't work properly.

Also, but a cook top that is compatible with the safety knobs they sell as child guards at places like lowes and home depot.

here is a link to show you how the child proof knobs work

One burner does not click or light. When turned on, gas will flow but no electrical click. What is wrong and what do I do to fix it?

There is a switch under each knob, the one that does not click will have the bad switch or the wire to the switch is bad.

The part number for the switch you need is 74005032. That is if the model number you show here is the right model of your cooktop (CCG2423). You will need to remove the top and take the glass off to repair.

All cook top burners spark when any is turned on

OK, the best action is to call for service, if the unit was just installed, and purchased. This unit should be covered at this time, by the manufactures warranty, or store 30 day warranty. This repair should be free. The culprit will be a faulty spark ignition switch, and module. Testing is required. Once this switch, or(module), is replaced, the unit will operate correctly.

3 of 4 knobs do not compress to turn on gas

You must replace those controls. Cleaning or loosening them up would be temporary at best and the next time they stick it could be in the open position. Safety first...Eric

Melted plastic help!!!!!!!

While the cook top is cool, use a razor blade scraper to remove most of the melted plastic.  Turn on the cook top to warm the remaining plastic slightly, turn off the cooktop,  and then wipe off the excess.
