SOURCE: how to clean a non-stick sole plate iron

I had this iron, and have since gotten rid of it. I cleaned the iron by running it with a solution of vinegar and water, about 1/2 and 1/2. Ran the steam until the solution was empty, and cleaned the nozzles with a q-tip at the same time. It worked temporarily.

My rowenta iron keeps sticking

Hello, Ellen -

You will find other methods for cleaning a sticky iron here:

Since the iron sole plate stickiness problem is not limited to Rowenta brand irons, it is easy to find solutions. How did I find the information? I just used my favorite search engine (Google) and used this search phrase:
iron sticking

How difficult is that?

Best wishes.

I was ironing a sweater and something from the fabric stuck to the iron surface and I can’t get it off. Do you have any suggestions?

use a chrome cleaner like flitz or metal surfaces. On non stick sole plates, you can use Easy Off oven cleaner.

My non stick sole plate on my Sunbeam iron is discolored with a rusty looking color that's coming off on my clothes. I keep it clean as can be, never leaving water in it,but this rusty looking dried on...

The discoloration is from a reaction of your water and the shield. The best way to avoid this is to use distilled water rather than tap water or use a water filter. I have had this problem at home as well (i have well water) and using a filter "fixed" the problem for me. Hopefully this will resolve the problem for you as well.

Please let us know if you still have the problem and we'll look for other alternatives.

How to repair aan electrical iron

Hi,

If the iron doesn't heat, make sure power is on to the outlet, check the electrical chord, and check the thermostat and replace if necessary.

If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents and flush sediment out of the steam chamber .
If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the electrical chord . Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat.
If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle.
If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.
If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the sole plate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the sole plate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.

The tools you will need are

  • Screwdrivers
  • Toothpicks or pipe cleaners
  • Sewing needle
  • Commercial electric iron cleaning solution or vinegar and water
  • Commercial sole plate cleaner or baking soda and water
  • Steel wool
  • Emery cloth
Please rate my solution.

How do you clean glide plate

IF its a ceramic non stick plate then the best way is to just to apply washing up liquid on a soft sponge to get dirt off. If the dirt is heavier try bicarbonate of soda and some lemon juice.
This works both with ceramic/non stick plates and stainless steel plates.

Residue on iron plate

They sell cleaner for this. Or just use very fine steel wool #000 or #0000. Only use on a stainless steel iron, not one that has non-stick coating.
