Question about Stanley Bostitch SX1838K 112" 18Gauge SX Stapler
I open the slide and set the staples in rail then try to close the slide but only closes partial then stops abruptly like something is stopping it

It sounds like you have a light duty stapler and are trying to use heavy duty staples. 1/4" refers to the length of the legs not the thickness of the actual staple. You probably just need light duty staples.

You must use the Arrow T50 staples. I tried to no avail using the T20 size staples and was ready to pull my hair out! Once I used the T50 staples, it was a breeze. I have had no issues loading staples since then.

You should not need any tools to lift the guard/nose piece. The T5 nose piece cleary has engraved on it "Pull Up To Insert Staples". To remove old staples, use a pencil or similar rod to depress the hammer/striker above the staples while the nose is open.
