OVT scanner does not calibrate nor allow "acquire picture"

Software is Arcsoft PhotoImpression 6 (supplied with slide/negative scanner). All other functions of this software seem to operate correctly (editing of existing/previously taken scans etc ...). Scanner is recognised by XP and displayed correctly in the device manager. And ...... it is also capable of taking "crude scans" using XP supplied tools. (so in my oppinion not a hardware problem).
What is it that is preventing PhotoImpression 6 software to "connect" with this scanner ?

I had a similar problem. Driver of scanner was ok.
Went to configuration->device manager-> in list checked the USB controllers and updated the Enhanced usb2 controller. Reboot and re-install de scanner driver. Most likely this will solve your problem

I hadn't used my scanner for a while, but finally discovered if I unplugged other items from my USB 2.0 Hub, the scanner worked. Simple....it took hours to get there but I had a working scanner at the end of the day. Believe it IS near the end of the day!
    Happy scanning, Kaz

USB2 controllers work fine with any other piece of equipment and even with this OVT-device if I use any other software than ArcSofts PhotoImpression 6. In Adobe Photoshop this driver works as a it shoud and with MS Paint the situation is the same. Also in another ArcSoft prorgam (PhotoBase 3) this driver seems to work. Also... it occurs in Windows XP only, in Vista it worked just fine.

There is a bug in PhotoImpression 6. That's what I make of it.

There's nothing you can do to make that scanner work for a Mac because it was made (and its software) exclusively for Windows.

You could try:
-use the scanner and its software on a Windows computer -go to a computer shop and have the slides scanned and saved on your flash drive

Acquiring images from a TWAIN Device PhotoImpression accepts images acquired via standard TWAIN devices. 1. Click the Get Photo button on the Main Screen, and select Camera/Scanner. A list of your TWAIN devices will appear. 2. Select your desired device from the Select Source pull-down. 3. Select the album to which you wish to link the acquired image(s). 4. Click the Acquire Options button to set your acquire parameters: a. Specify the file format for the acquired images. b. Specify the save directory for the acquired images. c. Choose whether or not to retain the original file format (for example, some cameras may save in a specific format-you can have the program convert the files to an option of your choice, or retain the original format). d. Set the file names for the incoming files. You can choose to have the program automatically name the files using the current date, or you can specify your own unique file name. 5. Click the Acquire button if you are capturing from a still camera or scanner; click the Video Camera button if you are capturing a still from a video. Follow the procedures specific to your device to import the image into PhotoImpression.
Updates for the Arcsoft application "PhotoImpression" are available from Arcsoft
If there are connection errors, that could be from:
  1. USB connection error
  2. Hardware issue
Try plugging the camera (via USB) to a different port on the computer, then acquire the pictures using the included software, or your own photo editing software that is capable of acquiring images from a TWAIN device.
Hope this helps!

Install the driver for your camera from the manufacturers website.
Once the camera is installed the software will probably find it.
Also check with Arcsoft and make sure your software is compatible with windows 7. It may require and additional driver.

For a scanner driver it should not matter whether you have XP Home or XP Pro. Most probably there's a simple problem with the disc.
You can ask the vendor for a replacement disc, or go to manufacturer's website and find downloadable drivers & software there. However, on the website there may not be the full software set available, as usually scanners come with some bundled extra 3rd party software that cannot be made available online by the manufacturer for everyone to download.
The essential thing is to install the drivers properly, the other bells & whistles are not needed, you can use applications either built into the system, or available free online for image scanning and manipulation.

Is there a iMac version of the Arcsoft Photoimpression 6 (or later) software and drivers for a Digital Image Copier??

Unfortunately there is no arcsoft photoimpression 6 or later for mac. All their mac products can be found at the following link, http://www.arcsoftsupport.com/products/mac_software.asp, and as you can see, the only photoimpression being sold for mac is photoimpression 5. Sorry mate
