Could be Motherboard...hard to determine with out seeing it. Could be a failed/failing power supply. You would need a 'known good' power supply to test it. Maybe your local PC shop would test it for you?

It's a lithium 3 volt coin cell. Radio Shack or a PC shop would have them. Have you tried clearing the CMOS settings on the MoBo? I've seen PCs not boot and look really sick and all it needed was the CMOS reset.

Hi,

Try This.

Remove the power lead from the computer. take off the left hand side panel.
Look at the Motherboard, and locate the cmos battery. ( round silver battery )
remove the battery for 10 seconds, then replace it.
replace the power lead to the computer, then reboot it.
You will have to set the date and time in the bios, after doing this.
go to save settings and exit.

Hi.

First of all disconnect the hard drive which is clicking and try to turn the desktop on. If it turns on then the HDD is causing the computer problems.
If it doesn't boot up then can you tell me if there is a blinking LED on the PSU (power supply unit)?

The power supply is receiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to the components. This means that either your power supply is bad or the motherboard. Try removing all devices attached to your computer and check your USB ports to see if they are damaged.

How's the status light of your computer monitor? is it blinking amber? and the status light of your computer tower's power button? blinking amber as well or solid green or no light at all?

1. Disconnect all the connection at the back of your computer tower
2. Press the power button of the computer tower for 15 seconds
3. Reconnect the power button and the monitor cable at the back of your computer tower and turn on the computer (if it turned on that means that one of the device plugged at the back of your computer tower is faulty)
4. If still the same problem, open up your computer tower.
5. Reseat the video card, Reseat Hard drive, Reseat Memory, Reseat CPU, Reseat power cord coming from the CPU to your computer (doing all things one-by-one to pin-point the root cause of the issue)

If none of the troubleshooting steps fixed the problem, possible that the power supply is faulty and if the power supply is faulty sometimes it goes with the motherboard.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

Computer wll not turn on.Where that power button is, the light is blinking green.

Please try the following:
Remove all the attachments (power cable, video cable mouse and keyboard) from the back of your computer tower. Press and hold the power button for at least 7 - 8 seconds, This will drain the flea power. Try to turn on the computer and it would start normally.
Please let me know the result. I that does not work I will provide you further steps.
Thank you for choosing Fixya

Sleep mode

Depends how it is set-up. If it is just in standby then simply moving the mouse or pushing a key should work. If it is in hibernate, then you have to push the power button for it to power back on.
