SOURCE: i just bought a 2nd hand honda excell psi max vr

Have a helper hold the trigger of the wand open while you try it again. If it starts that way you have a sticky unloader valve in the pump. DO NOT RELEASE the trigger for more than 10 seconds if the engine continues to strain when released! If the engine doesnt run freely when you let go of the trigger, pull it again and shut down the unit!
Add some power steering fluid to your supply hose (about 3 or 4 ounces at a time) and restart the unit with the trigger pulled. Allow the oil to flow through the pump for 1 - 2 minutes for each treatment. Several treatments should make the pump and valve happy again.

Hope this helps.

Take bowl off the Carburetor and clean the small jet that runs up the center of the Carb. This 160 has a very very tiny hole in the jet and they clog easily

How to set timing on a honda gvc160 6.5 hp engine

the timing is set by the magneto sitting on the Shaft that is fixed by a Keyway. If the timing is off it is because you broke the key. Did you hit something that made the mower stop?

Gcv160

GVC160 is the model of the engine not the mower itself, you would need to supply the mower model to get help.

Honda GVC160 wont start OHC cover dented

The cover does have the valves underneath. The cover is sealed with a gasket so carefully pry it off. You can fix the dents, then replace the cover sealing it with RTV sealer if you ruin the seal.
It's unlikely the starting problem is here.

I have a honda gvc160 and it only runs with choke closed when it gets warm it will start to surge up and down if i push the choke in it will stop running

you have a dirty fuel jet, take the float bowl off, clean it, then blow air up into the bolt hole where you removed the bowl, and the bolt that holds the bowl on, blow air thru that at least 75 psi

I have a honda o h c push lawnmower it starts easy but cuts out in about 30 secs

I have the GVC160 motor....same problems....just found this info (see link),...and it turned out that Honda used a NGK spark plug that was defective,....I couldn't believe that is all it was...after changing the carb (new),...adjusting valves....etc.. I just went down and bought a new spark plug.....and it runs great!!
----
BEFORE go thru all of the advice and look at most other Honda web info.....go and buy a brand new spark plug and start with that! It appears Honda used a NGK spark plug in the past that fails after some time....giving the syptoms of problems with the carb, sticky valve, etc. Do not try to clean and use the old spark plug!! Check this out....it was the answer I was looking for after hours of work, reading, and talking to Honda dealers - http://forum.doityourself.com/outdoor-power-equipment-small-engines/261743-honda-lawnmower-starting-then-cutting-out.html

No, there is no fuel filter in the tank. However, what you want to do is take apart the carb and clean everything with carb cleaner. Pay special attention to the needle and seet
