These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. SOURCE: volume control
I am a Sharp servicing technician and I have seen this "problem" with this particular model many times. I have tried replacing the Main Board and the Terminal Board and it does not help. The reason i put "problem" in quotes is because I came to the conclusion that this is model is just not that loud. However, a few months after the initial production run, BAM, these TV's are as loud as any other TV on the market so sharp must have caught onto this.

My son put a penny in the SD card slot of my Pansonic flat screen tv. I finally got the penny out but now the volume and tv controls do not work. I can change the channels through my cable box but that is it. The volume does not work on my cable remote or the flatscreen. What do you suggest I do to fix this problem?? Thanks, Josh

I had the same problem. all the service reset would only make the display come on for a few second with no "k" on the screen - only the channel would show up. I purchased a complete set of board for the lcd on ebay, and started swapping them one by one. The inverter boards were the culpret. Tele working 100% since that board swap.
