SOURCE: Creative Audigy 2 (WDM) card cuts out

Plug in ONLY the regular wired speakers and ONLY to the green port on the back.

Make sure they are powered up and the volume is about half way.

Ok now you need to call up ether the sound card application or preferably the windows volume control from the bottom toolbar.

Click Open Volume Control.

A box with sliders in should appear. make sure that volume control, wave, sw synth, aux, cd player, line in
are all about half way and that none of them have ticks in the box at the bottom.

If any of those are missing click options then properties from the top left and put a tick besides any that were missing (nothing else)
Now close the slider box.

Put a normal music cd in your cd/dvd player on the computer and set it to play with windows media player.
You should now have sound out of the speakers.

Double check that EVERYTHING is ok.
If there is still no sound check the control panle for any hardware issues and rectify those with the correct drivers

Creative sound card! no sound!

Check whether you plugged in the speaker wire into the correct jack at the back of the computer (it should go into the green colored jack on the sound card).

Did you try playing a sound file? Does media player show the file as playing, but you can't hear anything? Or do you get any error? if there's any error, please mention the error.

If the sound plays but you can't hear anything, again, check the speakers are connected to the correct sound jack. Next, try connecting a pair of headphones or earphones (lower the volume before playing any sound  or music file).

If you still can't hear anything, click Start and type the command "dxdiag" in the Run box and then press the Enter key. In the dxdiag window, click the Sound tab. Check the Notes box, if it gives any error info. If your card is working, it should say 'No problems found." You can also test the sound using the "Test Directsound" button.

If you still can't hear any sound, you should check and reinstall your sound card driver manually after removing it first.

There may be other problems. For more information, check this nice blog post about sound problems.

Hope that helps.
Regards,
Raspal

I have a 5.1 sound card that does not work in a Pavillion m7100y?

It is hard to say. It seems Creative no longer supports the Audigy 5.1 card, however if the sound card is in your system Creative does have a site that Auto updates your card. It's worth the try.
