Question about Televison & Video
If you have no indication of power(no lights,no clicks) the main fuse is a good place to start but if he is blown and is black in color you will have a shorted component ahead in the circuit and if you replace the fuse it will blow up as soon as you plug the set in,in all honesty since you are not too familiar with tv service you should be safe and seek the assistance of a servicer.
If you do not know enough about the high voltages in televisions - 25000 Volts is typical from the horizontal- line timebase then you should not even take the back panel off. Often the line timebase fails due to a power transistor going short circuit, this will probably blow a fuse on the internal printed circiut board. All the other supply voltages are derived from this one timebase. Some televisions also have a small mains transformer.
I have heard that it could simply be a faulty mains switch, which you could check with a meter on Ohms range. (TV not plugged into mains!).
Coils right steer clear of the Anode or Big wire w/rubber boot going to the CRT.(27.5KV) You may need a Horizontal output transistor if its a dead set. (Or flyback and or both).. If you are going to attempt repairing or tracking down get detailed instructions on discharging the CRT before poking around. These can retain voltage for years without being plugged in. (They will SNAP you good)!
Thanks for contacting fixya.
