Question about GE Advantium 120 Convection/Microwave Oven

Open Question

Door sticks, not aligned

Checking to see for this model, if there is a way to adust the door handle so you do not have to pull so hard to open it. I have been reading that the door has to be replaced. Is this a warranty or recall issue

SOURCE: door handle

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

SOURCE: pLASTIC AROUNG SCREW POINTS HAVE BROKEN OFF AT

The door handle can easily be replaced on MOST microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

The average cost for a replacement handle usually runs about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided. The part number for the model number you provided is WB15X322. You can view an exploded view of your microwave door here:
http://pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php
The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or with the door removed. You do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you

The door sticks and will not open automatically when you push the button to open the door - you have to manually open the door.

Clean the door swith housings and re align the door.
That should do it, any other problems will become apparent when you examine the door switch holders.

The push to open door handle on the model #KCMS 122Yal-0 (1995) built-in microwave sticks and won't open without pulling on door from underneath applicance

It may be that the push button, cam lever or door latch (or all three) have some grease accumulated on them that's making it sticky to open.

Or the rear surface of the push button or the face of the lever may be so worn that the door latches don't get pushed up all the way anymore.

These door opening parts are all located behind the control panel and pretty easy to get to so you can observe them as you press the button. That way you can figure out which is bad.

At our site, we have a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

You should enter your model number without the dashes: KCMS122YAL0

T993 - Positive Lock Switch ?

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount (which are pretty simple problems to fix) or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

It sounds like either a bad door switch or door switch mount, or a sticking relay on the control panel.

MICROWAVE TURNTABLE

Does it turn for just a moment or does it keep turning?

If it's just for a moment, that's normal.

If it stays on, either your top or bottom door switch is sticking or it's door switch mount is loose or broken.

Microwave oven does not heat

Found brand & model in your other thread:
> Whirlpool Gold Microwave Model GH7155XHS

Did you see the door switch file at my site I pointed you to?

With the door shut, you gently loosen the door switch mount screw nearest the switch that is not aligned properly.

Then pull back slightly on the door switch mount, and while holding it back, retighten the screw.

The door switch mount is also called the latch board. On the exploded view, it looks like there may only be one screw.

You have to look it over and figure out how to adjust it based on the way it's constructed and which way it needs to go.

I have a GE Profile Microwave and the handle is broken....

I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.
