Duet front load - water fills while door is open!

Twice in the two years since we purchased a Whirlpool Duet front load washer the tub has filled and overflowed with water while the washer is turned off. We leave the door open to cut down on bad smells, but have now had two small floods to deal with. Any ideas?

This is a leaking solonoid valve.
The valves are located just inside the machine where the water supply hoses attach.

  • Remove the power plug
  • Undo the top lid of the washer
  • The valves will have some internal pipes clamped on their outlets. Remove the pipes.
  • Dry the valve outlets with tissue.
  • Turn on the water supply to the washer (if it was off)
  • Watch the open valve outlets for seepage.

There may be between 1 and 3 valves depending on the model.
You should be able to replace the leaking valve quite easily.

My Whirlpool duet front load washer fills randomly with water when not in use and the door is open. Usually it only fills up to the door opening but this morning it was over flowing. ??????

check and make sure you do not have a siphoning problem. make sure the drain isn't backing up in the machine. This could also be a problem with the water inlet valve. Its possible that its not closing all the way when the machine is off. If its dirty water entering washer then the problem is siphoning from the drain. If its clean watet the valve is bad.

Twice the wash tub has filled with water while the door was open in between wash days. What might be the cause?

The water inlet valve has failed. Sometimes they get debris stuck inside. They are not that expensive and are easy to replace. Here is a link that should help

My Whirlpool Duet Washer fills up 1/4 of the tub on its own.

Sounds like a defective fill valve leaking water in although the machine is off.
First turn off your water and remove the hoses. Clean the screens in the hoses and the fill valve.
If that does not correct the problem replace the fill valve.

Water leaking on the floor while filling

Open the back of the washer. Start the fill cycle and observe where the water is leaking from. You are not going to get a full view of the entire tub by only opening the lower front access.
