Refrigerator Freezer Is Cold But Refrigerator Is Warm

Your fridge has was is called an adaptive defrost control. Not only does the period between defrost cycles change but also the time duration of the defrost cycle itself. The device is programmed to keep track of the appliance usage and how long it takes for the evaporator coil to be thoroughly defrosted. It will then calculate the amount of time required and adjust itself accordingly. If there is ice over the drain and on the bottom of the evaporator then your defrost element is working fine, that's why there is ice there. By what you've described it looks like your defrost drain is plugged up with old food pieces or plastic etc. The first thing to do is thaw out the drain completely including the drain tube which can be done by squirting hot water down it. Then blow it out with compressed air and run another few shots of hot water down it. You should see the water collecting in the defrost tray below. Once this is done plug in the fridge and let it run for a day or so and you'll probably find that it's running just fine again.

Freezer has warm spots. All around freezer is hot to the touch. Compressor is hot, coils are clean, condensor fan is running.

Thats normal.

The condenser coils are located just inside of your exterior cabinet walls on the sides and top.

So the freezer gets cold inside and heat has to be released from the condenser coils.
If this is something new, you may have a problem with the defrost timer

I have a Sanyo SR-3770S Refrigerator and I defrosted it last night after turning it off and unplugging it. After it had defrosted I plugged it back in and turned it back on at a medium setting and let it...

Greetings
Do you hear the compressor running and no refrigeration? If yes, feel around the back fror the condenser coils.Near the compressor ,the condenser tubing should be very hot to the touch. If not , you have no or low refridgerant. You may have punctured an evap coil during defrost.

After 8 hours evaporator should be ice cold.

If compressor is not running it's thermostat

Ice keeps building up on the freezer floor in my Kenmore refrigerator freezer. though I have turned the freezer setting down to cold from very cold, this continues to happen

The drain in the freezer behind back lower panel
needs opening. You can see it at the bottom of the back panel
underneath the evaporator coils. (The cold coils)
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
When the defrost melts the water it goes down the drain
If the drain is clogged with Ice or ? The defrost water
overflows into the ref. or freezer
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

The panel separating my side by side refrigerator from the freezer is hot - nearly to the point of burning. Kenmore model 10653606202

  1. check if the evaporator fan motor is running (inside the freezer)
  2. Same for the condenser fan motor on the bottom in the back of the fridge
  3. Clean condenser coils underneath or in the back of the fridge
  4. if there is a frost on the back wall in freezer - you've got the defrost problem, check defrost heater, defrost bimetal thermostat, and defrost timer

Kenmore 52532101 side by side freezer and refrigerator not cooling - any suggestions? Doesn't appear to be frozen up.

Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

How to check stuff>

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

Divider red hot

I'm not familiar with the Samsung refrigerators, but on most side-by-sides the evaporator (cooling) coils are located within the divider partition between the two sides.... along with the defroster 'heater' coils. During the defrost cycle, this panel may feel warm/hot to the touch. Are the freezer/refrigerator sections staying as cold as they should be otherwise? If they are also TOO WARM, then you may have a 'defrost cycle' relay or timer motor malfunctioning.

also see if the fan works properly.

Good luck..

PLEASE DISREGUARD GUEST FIXYA SOLUTION,FREEZER PROBLEM PROCEDURE IF NOT DEGITAL,FIRST CHECK IF ICE ON BACK FREEZER WALL. Refrigerator and freezer

Does the compressor click on and off every minute or so and is hot? That would likely be tripping on a thermal overload due to not being able to start (bad motor starter on the compressor). If the compressor is running normally and warm then you may have a froze up coil. Take the lower rear back sheetmetal cover off the inside freezer section and look at the coil. If it's frozen block of ice basically the defrost cycle is not working and the ice has blocked the air flow through the unit. (could be bad defrost heater, defrost timer or defrost t-stat). If the compressor is running normally and warm and you see no ice or even frost on the coils then you have a sealed system problem that usually means most if not all of the refrigerant has leaked out of the system (or a blockage/restriction in the system). This would be the worst case since it means a whole bunch of money to repair. Let us know what you find out and we can have a better idea on what to recommend.
