Question about Troy Bilt 5.5hp Self Propelled Mower
Lawnmower stalls after about ten minutes and wont start again until it cool off
Sounds like a bad coil/magneto.

My troy bilt did this and the manufacturer couldn't help.
The problem was this: it wasn't able to **** air through the gas cap. Thus the gas tank would get lower (as you mow) and a vacuum was created. It then starves for gas and quits. After a while of cooling, air slowly gets into the tank and it works again.
You can easily find out if this is the problem. Next time it stalls, take off the gas cap for a second (and listen to the air rush in.) Then replace the cap and if it starts easily, that's your problem. Solve it by getting a new gas cap--they're supposed to let a bit of air in around the threads, I think.
