Open Question

The player don't play anymore

Hi, my player doesen't play, when I put a cd insid it displays "no disc" or "Er". I tried to clean lens but with no sucess.
How can I fix it? Could it be the laser that terminate his life (the player is old)? In that case how can I solve the problem?
Thanks a lot!

SOURCE: Nad 502 CD will not recognise and play CD every time

HI.This will occur when the optical assembly becomes unstable. this ((Whole One Piece)), assembly incorporates the spin/load motor, optics housing /arm, tracking device and tracking rail. This is connected to the loading dock assembly. This 'NO Disc' or CD NOT PLAYABLE, code is the result of a failed or burned out lens, or misaligned loading mechanism. It is possible that you have a dirty lens cap. you can try using a cleaning disk in this case to confirm actual lens failure. if the cleaning doesn't restore normal reading capabilities, this will confirm my diagnosis.

You will need to have the optical assembly replaced in this case. once replaced, your unit will be able to read and track once more

SOURCE: Display doesn't work on TEAC PD H300mkIII

I had the same issue today. I found that opening the unit you can see that there is a white ribbon cable connecting the head unit to the main board. removing this cable and re-inserting it the connector fixed the problem. The display now works again...hope this helps

the laser on the optical pickup is not able to read the disk. either the disk is scratched (or dirty), the lens is dirty, or the optical pickup is bad and needs to be replaced. to clean, get a lens cleaner at any electronics store and follow their instructions. if it's really bad, unplug the unit, remove the cover, locate the lens, and use an alcohol pad or rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. don't soak it, but wipe the lens off gently and blow on it to dry it off (the alcohol will evaporate). this is not a recommended solution if you are the least bit unsure of what you are doing. if you need to replace it, try

Denon cd player

Put a lens cleaner into it. Can you hear the disc spinning inside, is the laser trying to read it? How old is the player? Has it been sitting not used for any length of time? It's better to use CD players too much than not enough. Has the guarantee expired? I have a workshop in SW London if you get stuck.

Bose Wave Radio w/single CD player on top

My Bose Wave Radio/CD developed this problem about a year ago. I don't use the CD player much and kept the unit clean. The disc spins but, the system does not read it. Cleaning the lens with cotton did not help.

Read that Bose charges $75 to fix this problem.

Wurlitzer 1015 OMT Disc spins, then stops....

Spoke with "Doctor Jukebox" from Folsom, CA about a similar problem I had. You can find him on craigslist.

I did NOT have the "2222" display issue.

Root cause: The laser isn't "seeing" the CD and interprets inability to see as being the end of the track, therefore, puts the CD back into the carousel.

1) Clean the lens. Be careful to use an appropriate lens cleaning solution. The lens is made of plastic and may cloud up if a harsh solution is used. Use a Q-tip dipped into the cleaning solution and gently clean the lens using a side-to-side motion, not a front-to-back motion. Wait for a bit until the lens is completely dry, then try playing a CD. (note: this fixed the problem for me)

If that doesn't work...

2) Replace the laser module. It's easy to remove with a torx. Be gentle when disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon cable and/or other connections so you don't bend the leads. Laser modules cost a few hundred dollars, so try Solution 1) above before replacing the module.

I works mechanically, but doesn't play the CD

try cleaning the lens first use a lint free swab and GENTLY clean the lens. don't use any liquid on this. if that doesn't work then load a disc and gently spin the disc when it lifts into load posistion. if begins to spin on it's own then replace the spindel motor. if it still does not spin, replace the optical pickup, the EF sensors inside the pickup no longer have the ability to read (see) the disc.

Won't play discs. Instead conitnuously rotates showing 20 segments per disc, no matter what.

Yanaha has had lots of bad laser pickups the past several years. It has to focus before it will spin. Sometimes they will focus and spin but still not read the disc. mybe you can try to clean the lens... CD lens cleaning discs: Every CD, stereo equipment, department, discount, store - and even sidewalk venders - carries CD lens cleaning discs. Are they of any value? Can they cause damage? I generally don't consider CD lens cleaning discs to be of much value for preventive maintenance since they may just move the crud around. However, for pure non-greasy dust (no tobacco smoke and no cooking grease), they may not hurt and could even do a good enough job to put off a proper cleaning for a while longer. However, it's also possible they will ruin the lens. Consider that the worst thing to do to a precision optical surface is to wipe it with a dry cloth as this is likely to scratch the surface as it rubs the dust over it. To the lens, a speck of dust is like a boulder. Once the lens is scratched, replacement of the entire optical pickup is the only remedy. And, since there are absolutely no sorts of standards for these things, it is possible for a really poorly designed cleaning disc to damage the lens even if the dust itself is non-abrasive. In addition, if the cleaning disc doesn't look like a CD to the optical pickup or disc-in sensor, the lens it may not even spin. So, the drawer closes, the drawer opens, and NOTHING has been accomplished! (But at least no damage will be done.) As if this isn't enough, NEVER put one into a high-X CDROM (DVD player or DVDROM drive). The high speed rotation may cause the cleaning disc and/or player/drive to self destruct. And, don't try a cleaning disc on an automotive CD player that sucks in the disk - it will get stuck.
