Question about Dewalt D55153 1.1 HP Continuous 4 Gallon Electric Hand Carry Compressor

1 Answer

Dewalt d55153 runs continually trying to get up to pressure, but can't.

My DeWalt D55153 oil-lubed compressor won't get up to pressure. At first, it would only go up to about 100 psi and then keep running but not increase tank pressure; then it was 70, and now it's getting stuck at about 60. I've adjusted the pressure cut-offs a few times so I could keep using it, but at this point it's not giving out enough pressure. I don't use this compressor often, and it usually rides in the back of the van. Over the years I've changed the oil every year, since I don't get very many hours on it. I've noticed that the oil was dirty when I changed it last year, and this year it looked like it may have been metal in the oil. It's been making a bit of a pinging/knocking noise when it runs. Am I dealing with a pressure switch issue, or is this a motor issue? Is infrequent use and constant transportation a problem for this type of compressor?

Just a guess but I think you have broken the rings inside. If you keep running it with broken rings you will trash the cylinder inside. I think you can buy a new pump for it if you are not mechanically minded.

Hello I have a Dewalt D55153 electric air compressor it was cold outside i tried to start it it started for a minute then quit not will not do anything I can not find reset switch?

Check your electrical supply. Try plugging something in the receptacle the compressor is plugged into. If that does not work then start going back to the electrical supply box. If its plugged into a GFI maybe the GFI needs resetting. If not then check your main box and see if you have blown a fuse or circuit breaker. Sometimes when compressors start up cold they pull a lot of hydro.

Air compressor not unloading

Check the pressure switch. The unloader valve is actually in the pressure switch where the small air line from the tank check valve attaches to it. When the pressure switch turns the motor off it then lets the head pressure bleed off so the motor can restart the next time pressure drops in the tank. If it's not working and bleeding off the head pressure the cold start valve (the one with the pin in it) also won't open so the motor can restart and warn up properly.

D55168 lost compression while running

The dewalt model d55168 is a high-end oil-free compressor. Oil free compressors could have a short life span due to dusty or dirty conditions at the job site. The cylinder of your compressor is open from the bottom and will **** in debris scratching the cylinder/ silicone-vinyl piston ring reducing pressure. However the reduction in pressure will be over time till the point that the compressor will not reach cut-out pressure and just keep running. If you lost pressure suddenly to "0" then you probably lost the drive belt. A replacement can be found at a local dewalt service center or ordered thru When you take down the compressor, be sure to examine the cylinder /piston for wear. These are the two most common problems. Good Luck on your repair and email if you have other questions.
