Frozen up Turbine is a 95% probable problem. Bearings rust! Take brush block out ad insert a screw driver (size of brush bock stem)where brush block stem goes up and in. Insert and try turn screw driver. Should turn fairy easy, some resistance because gear driven! Common problem! Can buy turbine on Ebay but be careful you order the right one for your model. They look the same but 5 brush and 6 brush turbines are different. Think I paid about $36 for one and did it myself but not the easiest. Good luck!

A better solution is take it to your local vacuum cleaner store and have them repair it. I repair these all the time. I disassemble the turbine and re-grease the bearing. It saves you money and is better than new. The other issue is not related though. If it won't pick up the water you most likely don't have the front of the lower tank latched properly.

When my hover suffered a similar issue i found the problem to be a little stone caught in the part you described as a water wheel, however later i found that one of the connecting hoses from the front of the hover had a little blockage , later, i actually washed the filters and left them to dry over night wrapped in a towel on a warm heater, it was back to normal , the last hover gave in as the motor started to slowly give in , it could be this

Keep the brushes cleaned regularly. I used a pick to pull out the hair and dust bunnies. It took a while, but will be easier if done regularly.

I tend to want to wash everything with soap and water. They recommended not using water.

I replaced the belt in our Eureka Boss Smart Vac, it still seems loose, it uses a type R belt. The beater belt still doesn't seem to turn properly and seems that it doesn't pick up very well when I use it...

Check to see that the beater brush is not frozen up. Pull the brush and clean it, spraying some WD40 on each end piece that holds the brush in place. Also be sure the belt is properly installed so that the brush turns in the correct direction. If the brush is not turning or not turning in the correct direction, it will not beat the dirt from the carpet so that it can be picked up by the vacuum's suction.

My Oreck XL has quit sucking. The brush turns but

Same problem here with XL9100. Bag would not expand implying no suction. Motor ran and brushes turned. Easy disassembly using common tools found that a plastic bag had been sucked up and caused a blockage prior to the impeller. Cleaned up, reassembled, and everything worked fine after that.

IRobot stopped picking up larger bits from the carpet. It picks up the dust, but anything larger, it leaves behind. Have changed the filter/brushes. Is there anything else I need to do

Its sounds like the brushes aren't turning. Pull the vacuum and bin off the back and start it and look to see if the brushes are turning.

I have a Eureka Whirlwnd bagless upright vacuum. It can pick up the dog hair but does not pick up the dirt anymore. What can I do?

Check the hose and dirt inlet by the brush roll for a clog. Also check your brush roll, do the ends turn freely, if not replace it, you may need a new belt, it may not be turning the brush roll under load. They stretch after awhile and will slip.

Hoover sttem cleaner

The brushes spin by virtue of an air driven turbine. This turbine uses a little of the motor suction to turn a large fan which turns the brushes. If you look behind the clear glass window on the front right hand side of the machine, you will see a screen which acts as a filter to keep debris out of the turbine. If this screen becomes clogged, it will affect the flow of air to the turbine and the brushes will slow down or stop all togeather.
Also, if the lid of the recovery tank is not on correctly, the suction will be compromised and the brushes will not turn and the machine will not pick up water off the carpet.

Steam vac will not pick up dirty water

My Hoover Steamvac problem isn't with the bruches--it's with the suction. Dirty soapy water stays in the carpet instead of being returned to one of the holding tanks.

Not dispensing soap; won't pick up moisture.

Check the filter on the bottom of the lid for the dirty water tank, make sure it isn't pushed all of the way up, needs at least a gap of 1/4 inch or so. Also make sure that the lid for the tank is locked down and not loose on one end.
